**Status**: Temporary Casual Float
**Schedule**: Shift times will be variable, 7am-3pm, 12-8pm, 1-9pm

**Additional Requirements**: Will need to provide a minimum of 2 days per week of availability on an ongoing basis (includes a weekend day) If training is required, training must be completed on consecutive days (example, if a bench requires 5 days of training, then our requirement is that this training occurs over 5 consecutive workdays).This role requires Genetics or Molecular Diagnostic experience. Preference will be given to individuals with at least 1-2 years of recent experience in Molecular Diagnostics or Genetics

**Duties**:
Technical
- Receive and access patient samples
- Performing instrument maintenance and QC
- Perform data entry and sample follow-ups; create CEMs and NCEs
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Report unresolved problems to senior technologist or team lead, as appropriate
- Complete all duties following Policies and Procedures as documented
- Follow Universal Precautions in handling all specimens received in the laboratory
- Use personal protective equipment (e.g. gloves, lab coats) as specified in EHS procedures
- Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment,

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain and demonstrate technical competence
- Recognize discrepancies and take appropriate action
- Manage the disposal of all laboratory waste as specified in EHS procedures
- Comply with all safety regulations as they relate to the laboratory environment (i.e. WHMIS, TDG, LifeLabs Safety manual)
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Communication/Teamwork
- Actively participate in team huddles and meetings
- Ensure effective communication when dealing with leadership team, support resources, team members
- Work in an organized fashion, maintain quality of patient care
- Keep up to date with information shared through the different modes of communication (e.g. memos, LifeLabs websites, updates, bulletin boards)
- Accept and provide constructive criticism

- Accountable for a safe and healthy working environment for all employees
- Maintain safe work practices and procedures established by LifeLabs and in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act & Regulations, Section 28

**Skills/Qualifications**:

- Bachelor of Science Undergraduate degree with focus on Molecular Biology and Genetics.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good data entry and computer skills.
- Proficient with online resources and laboratory information systems.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Good problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Good eye and hand co-ordination, with knowledge of proper sterile or aseptic techniques
