**JOB SUMMARY**
Rail Operations manages the delivery of diesel and electric rail services, including management of the thirty-year P3 contract with the Rideau Transit Maintenance Group for the rail maintenance contract for the LRT system, ensuring safe and reliable operations that meet service standards, comply with all regulatory safety and operating requirements, and provide a safe, reliable, efficient, effective, on time, courteous and cost-effective rail service to a growing and diverse City of Ottawa. Rail Systems oversees the life cycle management and implementation of capital projects within Rail Operations.
- You are responsible to provide technical support and expertise for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the City of Ottawa’s light rail facilities, systems and supporting equipment related to rail operations. You monitor and inspect the performance of the rail facilities, building systems and supporting equipment, and measure the performance of contractors. This includes all concrete structures, building automation and process related equipment such as heating, cooling, process water, plant air, hydraulics and power distribution, fire alarm systems, intrusion detection, cctv, voice radios, elevators, escalators and other electrical/mechanical systems.
- You also: oversee maintenance issues with contractors and other City departments to ensure that interfaces between rail and other groups are fully coordinated and seamless, such as snow removal, landscape maintenance, garbage removal, janitorial duties, graffiti cleaning; track, trend and analyze reliability in relation to facilities, and infrastructure assets; provide direction and comments to system expansions; and complete technical analysis of rail facility and system failures.
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
Completion of 3 year community college diploma in electrical, mechanical or electronic technology or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility and/or system maintenance and working with contractors, with a good understanding of highly regulated practices.
**CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES**
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset
**KNOWLEDGE**
- Technical knowledge of systems and related equipment
- Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts
- Development lifecycle and lifecycle products in relation to facility infrastructure
- Systems engineering and technical assurance

- General understanding of project management

- A general knowledge of passenger railroad / transit operations railway industry procedures and practices with a focus on urban transit systems
- A basic understanding of accounting and cost control procedures
- Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Project
