Youth Centre Worker

This position supports the work of YMCA of Northern Alberta, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Centre Mentorship initiative provides a safe space for youth to experience positive interactions and promotes YMCA values of Respect, Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, and Inclusion. The Youth Centre Worker provides mentoring to youth, ages 8-18, through strong relationship development as they facilitate and promote activities and programs designed to help youth build the skills necessary for managing the challenges they face. They model positive behaviors, encourage skill development in sports and arts, assist with conflict resolution, facilitate peer to peer relationship building, promote a culture of inclusion and will connect youth to resources and agencies when necessary.
**Schedule**:Monday to Saturday in the afternoons and evenings for up to 15 hours a week.
**Hourly Rate**: $15.75

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- Accountable for delivering high-quality services through excellent relationships with youth, staff, and volunteers.
- Effective communication with other staff and volunteers including documentation of issues, critical incidents, equipment/maintenance issues and daily review of staff communication log.
- Sharing critical information with youth including special events, behavioral expectations, Northside Community Centre’s (NCC) policies, and Youth Centre updates.
- Responsible for planning and implementing activities for youth both at NCC and offsite as opportunities arise.
- Ensure administrative duties related to the program are accurately and effectively completed as assigned by the coordinator and/or supervisor.
- Actively Supervise youth during programming, and manage behavior in accordance with the Child/Youth Behavior Management and Abuse policy.
- Make sure equipment is being inspected by staff and volunteers, and appropriate actions are taken to maintain it.
- Connect and build relationships with the youth and determine the need and support necessary by connecting them to agencies and programs available.
- Effectively communicate with and support the Youth Coordinators and Youth Supervisor.
- Maintains knowledge of relevant services and community resources.
- Ensure all program documentation is completed accurately.
- Comply with the Centre’s emergency response procedures. Act as needed to ensure a safe work environment for youth, staff, and volunteers.
- Notify the Duty Manager and/or leadership team if any emergency or serious problems arise.
- Provide opportunities for youth to learn and develop in spirit, mind, and body.
- Consistently role model and encourage YMCA’s values and mission, encourage a healthy lifestyle, participation of others by helping in their respective means, enrich the quality of programs and services, promote YMCA as a charity according to YMCA SAM Standards Document.
**What You Will need for this Role**
- Minimum 18+ years of age
- High School Diploma or equivalent is an asset
- Previous Youth work/mentorship or related experience
- Certifications: Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- Able to obtain a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Must obtain employer-specific WHMIS and Child Protection Training within 30 days of hire date
