**CULTURAL RESOURCE EDUCATOR**

Location: 1040 Brookes Street in the Child Care Department

In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Child Care/EarlyON Supervisor, the Cultural Resource Worker will create and implement Indigenous learning plans into the classroom settings. The Cultural Resource Worker will provide a safe learning environment for Educators to connect to Indigenous culture, language and ways of being. The main role of this position is to ensure that Indigenous culture is the foundation of the learning environment in each classroom at the NBIH Child Care.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Diploma or degree in Child & Family Services, Child and Youth Worker, Social Work or Social Service Worker, Recreation Therapy, Early Childhood Education, or Indigenous Wellness & Addictions / Addiction and Mental Health;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous culture, values, and history;
- Minimum (2) years of related experience;
- Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Experience with documentation standards and writing clear, concise reports;
- Experience working with First Nations organizations and/or a child care team;
- Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset; and,
- Must have a Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle with insurance.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**:

- Knowledge of the Indigenous community of North Bay and partner First Nations: Nipissing, Dokis and Temagami First Nations;
- Ability to work with diverse Indigenous groups and elements of their cultures including Indigenous spirituality, physical activity, and healing methodology;
- Ability to provide interventions that meet client and family needs and circumstances;
- Ability to coordinate and advocate for internal and external services to ensure follow-up supports are in place for clients and their families;
- Highly organized, ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task;
- Ability to communicate and work effectively in a team setting;
- High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning and discretion in accordance with NBIH policies and procedures;
- Computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); and,
- Ability to work in a kind, supportive manner with Indigenous people and families.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Provide regular cultural interventions to each classroom according to their learning milestones;
- Develop and guide feedback processes for parents/caregivers;
- Participates in team meetings and provide monthly reports to provide recommendations, action plans and progress updates;
- Participates in administrative meetings to present areas of concern and to receive direction and guidance;
- Collaborates with community partners;
- Coordinates internal and external services on behalf of client and family;
- Identifies and reports potential problems and new developments to the supervisor;
- Participates on internal and external committees, sharing information, identifying goals and engaging in collaborative problem solving;
- Acts as a resource providing information and techniques to help with de-escalations using cultural interventions;
- Documents and key enter case notes and case conference reports and evaluates data;
- Collects and documents client related information;
- Collects and records data to monitor client progress and evaluate the effectiveness of services; and,
- Other duties as required.

**As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must provide a current or recent Criminal Police Check with Vulnerable sector included.**
