The Alberta Immigrant Women & Children Centre (AIWCC) is seeking a skilled, passionate, and community-centered Project Facilitator to lead the implementation of a Community Health Literacy Initiative. This initiative is designed to enhance the health knowledge, confidence, and system navigation skills of racialized women, youth, seniors, and families who often face systemic barriers to accessing healthcare.
The overarching goal of this project is to reduce inequities in health access by equipping underserved communities with tools, knowledge, and confidence to make informed health decisions. By addressing both individual and systemic barriers, this initiative aims to promote health equity and strengthen connections between communities and the broader health system.
This is a unique opportunity for a facilitation and engagement professional who is deeply committed to equity, community wellness, and long-term impact.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Design and facilitate interactive, inclusive, and culturally responsive health literacy sessions on topics including nutrition, chronic illness prevention, health system navigation, mental and physical well-being, and preventative care.
- Develop and coordinate the full lifecycle of project activities, including curriculum development, scheduling, community outreach, venue and resource logistics, and communication strategies.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including guest speakers, healthcare professionals, community-based organizations, and service providers to enhance participant learning and access to services.
- Collect and analyze feedback and data to monitor participant progress, evaluate session effectiveness, and inform continuous improvement efforts.
- Lead regular reporting to funders and internal leadership, documenting project milestones, successes, and challenges, ensuring accountability and transparency.
- Identify and provide appropriate referrals and resources to support participants beyond the sessions, strengthening their long-term health navigation skills.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that centers safety, dignity, cultural humility, and respect in all programming and interactions.
- Utilize evidence-based health communication practices to oversee the development of plain-language health education materials tailored to community needs.
- Address the social determinants of health by embedding them into action plans and facilitation strategies.
- Demonstrate a high level of cultural responsiveness, using nonjudgmental and non-shaming communication, especially with individuals with limited health literacy or formal education.
- Facilitate collaboration between adult literacy programs, healthcare organizations, and community partners to expand the reach and relevance of health literacy education.
- Champion community voice and inclusion, ensuring participant perspectives shape program delivery and development.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in facilitation, project coordination, and community-based education, preferably in a nonprofit or grassroots setting.
- Proven experience working with racialized, immigrant, and newcomer populations with an emphasis on equity, inclusion, and cultural safety.
- Strong understanding of health literacy principles, public health education, and the social determinants of health.
- Exceptional community engagement and stakeholder relations skills, with the ability to build trust and foster collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to monitor program outcomes, collect qualitative/quantitative data, and produce clear, evidence-informed reports.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing multiple priorities within deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information in plain language and cross-cultural contexts.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and basic database or reporting tools.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
- Proficiency in additional language(s) and/or lived experience as an immigrant or member of a racialized community is a significant asset.
