As an integral member of the team, you will be responsible for oversight of the company’s overall financial operations including preparing statements, conducting analysis, forecasting, and reporting in order to support sound business decisions and organization objectives. This individual will complete day to day financial activities such as management of AR/AP and maintaining accounting systems, maintaining sound accounting principles and practices, as well as providing leadership with advice and guidance for financial planning purposes.
To be successful in this role, you must have a positive and collaborative attitude while taking a proactive, detail-oriented approach to support the team as Federation continues to grow. You will need flexibility and adaptability to thrive in evolving and changing roles and responsibilities.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
**General Accounting**:
- Responsible for full-cycle accounting and the management of various AR/AP activities.
- Provide updates to company leadership on the status of the organization including preparation of reports such as consolidated financial statements, actual vs. forecast, cash flow, accounting journals / ledgers / other transaction records.
- Develop and maintain sound financial controls and processes.
- Prepare all month-end and year-end financial statements and packages within required timelines.
- Review and report on all financial statement variances.
- Review and post journal batches to the general ledger and prepare journal entries as required.
- Prepare monthly allocation entries to assign costs to projects.
- Complete bank deposits as required.
- Complete regular review, approval and reconciliation of AR, AP, bank ledger, income/expense statements.
- Conduct invoicing/billing and project costing activities and oversight of these functions.
- Prepare necessary documents for annual return and financial statements.
- Complete GST filing.
- Engage with external accounting firm for annual review engagement.
- Research discrepancies of information and documentation for the purposes of ensuring accuracy and adherence to proper accounting procedures / practices.
**Budgeting & Financial Planning**:
- Support in the preparation of annual budgets and multi-year financial planning.
- Develop and maintain processes and systems to track monthly revenues and expenditures, and ensure that revenue targets are met or exceeded.
- Support with day-to-day cost management activities.
**Office Leadership**:
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of high-performing individuals including ensuring that new and existing staff have sufficient training and resources to provide professional service delivery.
- Contribute to a dynamic workplace culture in Edmonton

**Qualifications**
**Skills and Experience**:
- Degree or Diploma in Accounting from a recognized postsecondary institution.
- CPA designation.
- Minimum five years’ experience in a full-cycle accounting operations role.
- In depth understanding of standard Canadian accounting processes.
- Industry experience within professional services firms or oil and gas sector is strongly considered an asset.
- Familiarity with software such as Aimsio, QuickBooks, Open Invoice and Cortex would be considered an asset.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- A high level of discretion, tact and confidentiality when managing sensitive information.

**Working Conditions**
Federation believes in providing flexible working arrangements for our office personnel. This Edmonton-based position is hybrid remote / in office and may require occasional travel to other company office locations.
