Discover Coding - TECHNICAL INSTRUCTOR

**Position**:Technical Instructor (2 positions available)

**Job type**: Full time (30-40 hrs/week) during Summer, Part time (10-20 hrs/week) during Fall/Winter/Spring

**Wage**: $20.00-$23.00 per hour

**Contract**:1 year with possible extension

**Location**: in-person locations across Edmonton

**Your Role**

The Technical Instructor assists the Lead instructor in inspiring and guiding youth to create with code and technology through Discover Coding’s curriculum. You will have opportunities to lead some small groups or classes. You will create a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for youth to thrive in their learning. This role requires you to prepare technology for the Lead Instructor and support technology and classroom management during programs. You will ensure classes run smoothly and deliver the Discover Coding programs to our highest quality and standards.

**Responsibilities**
- Assist Lead Instructor or lead small groups/classes in teaching youth aged 5-14 on how to code
- Ensure classroom technology is set up
- Supervise youth during their breaks
- Support a dynamic learning environment that engages & facilitates authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences
- Maintain positive relationships with parents and students, and providing excellent customer service as required
- Work collaboratively and proactively with a team to provide valuable experiences and deliver results
- Support Lead Instructor in teaching the curriculum to students in our in-person programs
- Troubleshoot and report technical issues to our technical team
- Provide and receive constructive feedback on how to be a better instructor and employee
- Sustain a level of professionalism aligned with company norms and values

**Other Responsibilities may include**:

- Building curriculum content
- Back-end support for our learning management system and program processes

**Qualifications**
- Experience working with students in grades K-9
- Strong knowledge and experience with coding and technology
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Minecraft
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Roblox (preferred)
- Experience building computers (preferred)
- Relevant teaching experience and/or leadership skills (preferred)
- Experience facilitating groups of youth and/or working youth programs with proven classroom management (preferred)
- Standard First Aid Certificate (preferred)

**Requirements**:

- Has access to a vehicle
- Must pass Police Check and Vulnerability Sector Check
