Morning Baker

Coco's is looking for a morning baker

We are a small neighbourhood coffee shop and bakery specializing in nostalgic baking made in house, amazing breakfast sandwiches and personable service. We are currently looking to hire a weekday morning baker who can take on the tasks that get us up and running for the day, assemble and heat up sandwiches to order, and complete a few prep tasks before the end of the day. To start, shifts will be 5 am - noon Monday through Wednesday, but could probably be moved to a 6am start time as your comfort and efficiency in the role picks up. We are more than happy to expand the position to full time for someone who shows they are well adapted to the role.

Your day will involve proofing croissants, rolling, proofing & baking biscuits, making scones from scratch, portioning and baking muffins, cookies, etc, assembling sandwiches and getting the pastry case set up looking gorgeous. Sandwich orders will come in, and you'll be warming them up, keeping up with dishes and kitchen cleanliness. The days you'll be working will typically be busy in the morning, tapering off to an easy pace. Prep tasks like prepping batters/dough for the next day will also be part of the duties. We'll also need someone who can be trained on the till and espresso machine to help the front take some orders in a pinch and for help with break coverage. We are a small place with a tight knit team who have all been with us for a long time and everyone helps each other out.

This is a good role for someone who likes a consistent routine, honing their craft, is a good communicator and morning person. There's also opportunity for someone who wants to learn more, particularly if you are interested in making cakes as we do birthdays/weddings as well. **Qualifications**:

- Food Handlers Certified
- must have valid certificate
- At least 2 years working in a professional baking environment, other professional kitchen experience a plus
- Able to lift 20kg bags of sugar & flour
- Knowledgable of kitchen safety & sanitation standards
- Positive demeanor, open communicator, team-oriented
- Confident problem solver, proactive and able to strategize their time management with the needs of the cafe (i.e
- I'm noticing the front is low on cookies
- I'll get more in the oven before I start making biscuits. We have a lot of biscuits left but low on bacon, I'll prep more so we can sell a few more sandwiches today etc)
- Ok to work weekends once in a while when needed
