The Veterinary Technician (ICU) is a **full-time permanent** position.

Duties will include:

- Performing a thorough initial examination of patients in ICU and coming through ER.
- Taking vital signs, drawing blood and gathering medical histories.
- Mentoring and assisting ICU technicians with treatments and overall patient care
- Collecting specimens
- Assisting during advanced procedures including but not limited to: placement and maintenance of central venous lines, arterial blood draws, high flow nasal cannula oxygen, placement of NG tubes, placement of nasal cannulas for oxygen delivery, placement and maintenance of thoracostomy tubes, maintenance of esophagostomy tubes, use of continuous suction (ThoraSeal unit), cross matches for blood transfusions, blood typing, blood transfusion (pRBC, plasma, platelets, albumin), care of neonates
- Taking and processing x-rays.
- Performs accurate and consistent inventory, cleaning, and, maintenance procedures of surgical materials, equipment, and clinical area
- Calculating drug doses and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and/or orally
- Preparing patient discharge instructions and prescriptions
- Delivering excellent and thorough discharge instructions and follow-up client communication
- Possessing an excellent knowledge base of medications and drug interactions/side effects/contraindications
- Ability to multi-task in high-stress environment
- Ordering and maintaining appropriate stock of all blood products
- Performing laboratory procedures.
- Preparing animals and equipment for surgical procedures.
- Experience with anesthetic delivery, support, and monitoring equipment
- Assisting in research.

Required Qualifications:

- Registered Veterinary Technician or Non Registered
- Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral), Bilingual in both English and French would be an asset
- Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift up to 25kg.
- Minimum 5 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician preferred.
