**Position Description**:
As a member of the Leadership Team, the Assistant Resident Care Manager ensures residents enjoy the best possible quality of life through exemplary care, a safe and secure environment, and a friendliness that feels like family. Through clinical and leadership skills, the Assistant Resident Care Manager establishes a high level of quality care and service for residents, visitors, and staff members, and performs their duties in accordance with the St. Andrew’s Residence vision, mission and values statements. They foster a healthy work environment and promote trust between residents and the care team. St. Andrew’s Residence is a signatory partner of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team and the Assistant Resident Care Manager will participate in the evolution of the integration of St. Andrew’s Residence within the local health team.

**DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assists with managing all aspects of resident care including working with residents, their families and department staff to allow aging in place when possible and ensuring adequate care according to each individual care plan. This includes but not limited to supporting resident changes or decline in functioning; initiating appropriate support services including Assisted Living, Home and Community Care Support Services or palliative care
- Assists with maintaining, creating and building strategic partnerships with Home and Community Care Support Services Erie St. Clair, the Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team and other community care partner organizations and committees
- Participate in hiring of new staff by being involved in interviews, supporting onboarding and orientation; conduct staff interactions without favoritism; seek opportunities for employee personal development including individualized annual reviews
- Collaborates with Director of Care, Resident Care Manager and Human Resources Manager to manage staff scheduling and absences.
- Assists with monitoring the daily work/staffing assignments of the Health Care Department, including modifying work assignments, as necessary
- Establishes and maintain liaisons with residents and families, meet with residents and families as dictated by individualized care needs; encourage care conferences; and ensure resident care plans are based on the individual residents’ goals, Best Practice Guidelines and requirements under the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 in coordination with Director of Care and Resident Care Manager
- Establish an environment of interprofessional practice through communication, support and team development within the Health Care Department and across the organization
- Co-ordinate with physicians to provide integrated approach to resident care and promote positive clinical outcomes.
- Ensure all interactions with residents, families and their supports demonstrates respect, dignity and compassion and facilitates open communication related to resident needs, or suggestions for improvement
- Participate in the coordination and monitoring of clinical programs for the nursing department, including infection control, medication administration, pain and symptom management, falls prevention, continence, skin and wound.
- Carry out policies and procedures according to RHRA standards and evidence based practice, including development, monitoring, and reviewing compliance.
- Participate in and engage others in Quality Assurance activities and audits; submit reports as required
- Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality and protect operations by monitoring confidential information processing and ensuring employee education and compliance to policies
- Participate in managing day to day operations related to medication destruction; pharmacy communication; inventory and supply (office & medical) ordering
- Participate in investigating incident reports, concerns and complaints and participate in resolution process
- Participate in developing annual goals and objectives for continuous improvement of the Health Care Department, assist with budget preparation. Seek out innovation and opportunities through other organizations such as RNAO, WeRPN/RPNAO, ORCA etc.
- Participate in the 24/7 on call coverage schedule
- May be required to provide coverage for a clinical shift when all efforts to fill a shift have been exhausted and supports or covers staff breaks as required
