The Mission of Western International is to create, promote and support the University’s international strategy, while acting as a resource to faculties and departments across the Western community. Western International includes the Western English Language Centre, the International and Exchange Student Centre, International Learning, International Student Recruitment and International Relations.
Key goals of Western International include:
- fostering international learning opportunities
- recruiting and supporting international students
- enhancing overall global activity and awareness
**Responsibilities**:
**Responsibilities**:
- Promotes Global Connect and Internship programs to students through a variety of channels (e.g., social media, campus events, and information sessions) to increase student participation:
- Coordinates the development, related logistics and support of the execution of events and programming related to Global Connect and Internship program, working closely with the International Learning team (e.g., Go Abroad Fair, Information Sessions, UCC info booth, etc.)
- Coordinates displays promoting Global Connect and Internship Program in addition to international learning opportunities. Works closely with volunteers (e.g., International Learning Ambassadors and Global Connect Alumni) to staff booths and displays as required
- Represents the International Learning team at university-wide promotional events (e.g., Residence Tradeshow, Orientation Service Fair, SOGS Orientation, etc.)
- Works with Western International Communications team to ensure Global Connect and Internship opportunities are included in social media posts, _Western News, The Gazette_, website, etc., and liaises with USC Clubs and other stakeholders to collaborate on related promotional activities
- Collaborates with Western International Communications team to develop and/or update promotional materials for Global Connect and Internship opportunities (e.g. displays, promotional videos, presentations for events, etc.)
- Advises students, partners and faculty members on all aspects of Global Connect and Internship opportunities:
- Supports students by advising on available financial supports, trip logistics, and GSO funding requirements etc.
- Supports students who are interested in on-site and virtual internship opportunities by connecting them with service providers
- Creates and/or updates program pages in Atlas to ensure information is up to date
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a smooth-running program, including proper data entry in Atlas and GSO portal, coordination and issuing of acceptance and scholarship letters etc.,
- Designs, compiles data, conducts analysis and develops reports on a variety of metrics related to Global Connect and Internship programming and activities and provides related recommendations to the Director, International Learning
**Qualifications**
**Education**:
- Minimum Required:_***
- Undergraduate Degree in International Development, Education, or related field in Social Sciences
**Experience**:
- Minimum Required: _
- 2 years of related experience working with students and international programs
- Previous international work, study, volunteer or cross-cultural experience
- Preferred: _
- Previous experience in a University environment working with students
- Ability to speak, read and write in a second language would be an asset
Skills, Abilities and Expertise:
- Knowledge of post-secondary programs, protocols and processes as they relate to admissions, course credit transfer and student registration in an international context
- Highly developed cross-cultural knowledge and understanding of intercultural considerations and cultural adjustment process
- Proven ability to assess issues promptly, intervene and problem solve to support a positive student experience
- Ability to effectively manage social media platforms, communication and engagement for student populations
- Demonstrated strong customer service orientation to handle enquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
- Proven strong ability to assess the needs and expectations of a diverse clientele, advise students, make referrals
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with strict and conflicting deadlines in a dynamic environment
- Strong relationship management, influencing and collaboration skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage volunteers and implement training programs
- Proven ability to evaluate programs and implement necessary changes
