**Job Title: Summer Research Field Technician - Bat Ecology**

**Location: Saskatoon, SK (University of Saskatchewan)**

**Job Type: Seasonal (June to August)**

**About Us**: The Lane Lab at the University of Saskatchewan is seeking passionate and committed individuals to join our research team as technicians for the summer field season. We are focussed on identifying key habitats of endangered bat species across Saskatchewan. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to academic research and gain hands-on experience in the field of ecology.

**Responsibilities**:
**Field Work: Netting and Bat Sampling**
- Travel to various locations across Saskatchewan to conduct night-time fieldwork.
- Participate in netting activities to capture bats for ecological research purposes.
- Collect samples from captured bats for further analysis.
- Ensure proper care and maintenance of field equipment and tools.

**Field Work: Acoustic Monitoring and Roost Site Sampling**
- Conduct daytime fieldwork, including deployment and retrieval of acoustic recording units to monitor bat activities.
- Collect samples from bat roost sites for research and conservation efforts.

**Radio Tracking**
- Engage in radio tracking to monitor bat movements and behavior.
- Record and analyze data to contribute to ongoing research projects.

**Data Collection and Processing**
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of field observations and collected data.
- Assist in the processing and analysis of acoustic data in the laboratory.

**Community Engagement**:

- Interface with landowners and community members to gain access to research sites.
- Build positive relationships and communicate the importance of bat ecology research.

**Qualifications**:

- Courses in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Comfortable working in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and address technical issues with equipment.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Experience working with animals, particularly bats, is an asset.
- Rabies shots are an asset; must be willing to undergo rabies vaccination if selected.
- A valid driver's license is an asset.

**Duration and Compensation**:
This is a full-time, temporary position beginning immediately and continuing through the end of August, with potential to extend into early or mid-September.

**Terms of Employment**: Salary is $2000-$2400/month, depending on previous experience and qualifications.
