Bow River Paving, part of the Trotter & Morton Group of Companies, has been providing asphalt paving services for private and commercial projects in Alberta since 1991. Our operations also include grading, gravelling, and snow removal services.

Bow River is currently looking to hire an Asphalt Roller Operator who will contribute to our team of dedicated personnel by bringing their experience and high-quality workmanship to every project.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Responsible for placement of HMA to design specifications and tolerances
- Operate Paving roller for breakdown, intermediate, and finish tolling
- Establish rolling patterns through communication with paving foreman and quality control personnel to meet design compaction and smoothness requirements
- Responsible for maintaining the roller, including cleaning
- Operate the roller and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
- Safely operate roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness
- Determine speed and direction of machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures, so that ridges do not form by excessive pressure
- Push hand roller and pound surfaces using hand tamp, or guide portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller
- Operate self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented, or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces
- Operate the Breakdown roller to massage hot mix asphalt into place
- Using the Rubber Tire Roller, compress hot mix asphalt to desired compaction
- Operate Pad Foot Roller, using vibrate when necessary, until ground surface is hard
- Operate Smooth Drum Roller, to seal subgrade and base surfaces
- Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Roller
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
- Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required
- Perform other duties as required

Required Experience
- High School diploma or GED
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- OH&S Certificate, WHMIS, CSTS certification is required
- Must be able to perform manual labour
- 2-5 years’ experience required

**Additional Requirements**
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
- Ability to work outside, on uneven ground, for long periods of time in different weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and crouch for long periods of time
- Travel may be required
- The position often requires overtime and can be seasonal in nature
