**About The CMM**
**Position Overview**
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Community Services and Infrastructure, and reporting to the Emergency Management Project Manager, the Climate Adaptation Officer is responsible for the coordination and development of a comprehensive Climate and Health Adaptation Plan for the 8 CMM member communities.
**Overview of Responsibilities**:
- Conduct background research on current emergency management trends, practices within First Nations communities, as well as emergency management systems specifically designed in response to climate change events and understanding health impacts
- Conduct community knowledge-sharing sessions to identify community-specific climate-related health risks and concerns, as well as traditional adaptation methods
- Work collaboratively with other CMM staff to identify project synergies and provide support where collaboration opportunities exist
- Conduct youth education sessions, focused on the connection between climate change and human health
- Develop a Climate Change and Health Adaptation Plan for the eight CMM member communities
- Conduct literature reviews, surveys and research as directed by the Senior Director and the Advisory Committee
- Act as a technical liaison on climate change adaptation for CMM communities' members, Advisory Committee members, and Chief and Council
- Compile research results, prepare technical reports and assist the Advisory Committee and CMM in their analysis.
- Assist with the development and implementation of an annual work plan by offering innovative ideas and suggestions for projects relative to the program.
- Establish new and maintain existing relationships with community staff, administration, public works, and general members to ensure positive working relationships in future projects.
- Any other related duties as required and as requested by the Executive Director or Senior Director, such as to participate on committees or special projects.
**Position Requirements**:
- An understanding of regional climate change risks and associated health impacts
- Ability to work effectively with other departments, levels of government, industry, and the public
- Ability to deliver compelling presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a leader on multi-discipline teams, or independently, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work in an environment requiring discretion and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
- High values in teamwork, client service and professionalism
- Strong initiative, motivation, conscientiousness, and dedication
- Ability to work unsupervised with a high level of productivity with the ability to seek and take direction.
- Ability to be adaptable, flexible, manage multiple priorities to ensure clients are well served and relationships are developed and maintained.
- Ability to think analytically and critically while problem solving to identify specific needs and potential solutions.
- Able to develop relationships and this will include strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, collaboration, conflict resolution, and active listening
- Ability to coordinate many tasks, people, and competing priorities.
