**TERM**: FTE 0.4 part-time, 2 days/week

1 year contract with possibility of renewal

**SALARY**:$24.94 to $34.34/hr (Will commensurate with skills and experience)

**REPORTS TO**: Dr. Kimmo Murto

**CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for an experienced Research Assistant**

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Research Assistant who, under the general supervision of Dr. Kimmo Murto, helps coordinate and operate regulated clinical trials and various anesthesia clinical research projects. This includes, but is not limited to, project scheduling, data collection, conducting study visits with participants, patient screening, obtaining consent, as well as general administrative assistant duties. The current study you would be recruiting patients for is called “_Celecoxib Plasma and CSF Pharmacokinetics in Children: A Two Phased Double Blinded Randomized Controlled Study”_. REB# 08/16X. (Clinicaltrials.gov, no. NCT01344200).

Dr. Kimmo Murto is a pediatric anesthesiologist (former cardiac anesthesiologist) and an Associate Professor Level Two (2) Investigator at CHEO. Currently, he is the Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs for the University of Ottawa Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, a scientific committee member of both the Canadian Pediatric Anesthesia Society (CPAS) and the Society for Advancement in Patient Blood Management (SABM) and he is a member of the ASA patient blood management (PBM) committee and the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) PBM special interest group. Dr. Murto’s main research interests are in the perioperative management of children undergoing tonsil surgery, managing the massive bleeding patient and using technology to improve value in healthcare service delivery.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Under the general supervision of Dr. Kimmo Murto, the Research Assistant responsibilities will include:

- Administration and coordination of day-to-day operation of research studies and/or clinical trials
- Ensuring effective coordination of recruitment, screening, obtaining informed consent, and visit scheduling
- Collection, processing, and compiling of research data, and samples (following strict protocol and detailed instructions)
- Creation of data forms, and entry of data accurately and efficiently into the database and other systems (eCRF)
- Provide administrative support to the research team
- Liaise with all study personnel, set up and participate in study monitoring visits
- Prepare, negotiate, and track study budgets
- Facilitate the review and negotiation of contracts and agreements
- Prepare Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions
- Organize and maintain project files, study documents, participant records, and research databases
- Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES**
- College or University undergraduate degree in a health-related field (Essential)
- Minimum 1 year of Research Assistant experience working on a clinical trial, preferably an investigator-initiated regulated trial, including participant recruitment, obtaining informed consent, and data collection (Essential)
- Understanding of research design, procedures, guidelines and standards governing

clinical research including Personal Health Information Protection Act (Essential)
- Data management experience (Essential)
- Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint software) (Essential)
- Knowledge of EPIC and RedCap (Essential)
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal a
