**VISION**:
At the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA), we celebrate and honour the safety and healing of Indigenous Women and Girls as they take up their leadership roles in the family, community, provincially, nationally and internationally for generations to come.
**SCOPE**:
The **Justice Coordinator **will coach and support a group of employees within the community services portfolio and building capacity with the various ONWA programs while ensuring ONWA’s vision, mandate, objectives, and Community Member deliverables are met and aligned with ONWA’s Strategic Plan.
The **Justice Coordinator **will provide systemic advocacy and system navigation for immediate response to women who are involved with the criminal justice system, by providing immediate support to the Gladue Workers and additionally the Branch Managers who oversee the portfolio. The Justice Coordinator will liaise with all necessary court personnel to develop working relationships, raise awareness, education on Gladue as well as foster a professional relationship with the courts. The Justice Coordinator will work to support the Gladue program by providing Management with up-to-date research on legislative changes that may impact Indigenous women involved with criminal justice. The Justice Coordinator will play a pivotal role in ensuring that as Gladue evolves ONWA’s Gladue program evolves to continually provide Indigenous women a safe space to share their story. The Justice Coordinator will additionally work to support ONWA’s Ministry of Attorney General funded programs to support the creation of specialized aftercare plans for Indigenous women and work with Branch Managers to ensure that provincially based initiatives are being developed, coordinated, and delivered.
The Justice Coordinator will work one on one with the Gladue Writers and Gladue Aftercare Workers to assist in developing cultural programming, reviewing Gladue Reports, assisting with streamlining process on accessing in-custody community members, and additionally, ensuring that Gladue Writers and Aftercare Workers are working within the scope of their roles to support Indigenous women who have matters in the criminal court. The Justice Coordinator will also work with Trauma Informed workers to streamline requests, coordinate training opportunities, and assist in the development of partnership building with Indigenous and non-indigenous agencies to ensure Indigenous women have access to support and advocacy.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- A degree or diploma related to Law, Paralegal or Social Work with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a Supervisory or Management role.
- Minimum 3 (three) years previous work experience in supporting and advocating for Indigenous women and families within justice sectors.
- In depth knowledge and previous experience working with vulnerable individuals; in the areas of justice, trauma informed practices and community safety.
- Knowledgeable of Criminal Code of Canada and its impacts on Indigenous Women
- Demonstrated administrative management with the ability to supervise.
- Knowledge and experience with Indigenous culture, traditions, ceremony and connecting Community Members to cultural practices that can be used in supporting Community Members.
- Successful working experience influencing, changing, affecting, impacting law as it relates to Indigenous Women.
- Proven ability to bring creative and progressive ideas to the table in support of Indigenous Women impacted by current law.
- Positive, collaborative and team-oriented attitude.
- Able to manage and prioritize many conflicting priorities simultaneously with strong organizational, project management and time management skills.
