**JOB SUMMARY**
The Niagara Region has a six-month Water-Wastewater (W-WW) Outreach Student/Intern position with the water-wastewater division of the Public Works Department from April-October. This is an excellent learning opportunity for a recent graduate from a related field of study (Environmental, Public Health, Public Administration, Marketing and Communications).

This position is based out of the Water-Wastewater Integrated Systems Office (980 Major St. Welland) but requires significant travel throughout the region to various community events.

Hours of work: 35 hours per week (includes evenings and weekends), according to program demand.

The W-WW Outreach Student/Intern assists with coordination of Niagara Region’s Water Wagon program and acts as the monitor of the Water Wagon while also representing the division at public events. Responsibilities include assisting maintenance staff with the set-up/take-down of the Water Wagon, testing and recording chlorine residual level of water throughout the day, stocking supplies/ice, educating and engaging with the public about water and wastewater services, and responding to questions.

The student/intern also assists with coordination of communication activities internal and external to division, acquiring information and technical materials, preparing presentations and accompanying materials, managing promotional and water festival inventory, assisting with the Niagara Children’s Water Festival, and general duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION**
- Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED), and;
- Currently enrolled in, or successfully completed a related post-secondary degree/diploma program within the last 12 months (or will successfully complete prior to starting this position)

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Experience with public outreach, presentations, education, and customer service preferred
- Experience in a water quality, resource management, or related environmental field preferred
- Familiarity with current, water-related environmental issues, and core services provided by the Region is an asset
- Previous related experience (including co-op and volunteer experience) is an asset

**SKILLS**
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage with the public and respond to questions
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong computer skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision, as well as in a team environment

**SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Must be able to start April 14, 2025
- There is flexibility in scheduling during September and October for current students
- Must provide proof of meeting the educational requirements outlined above
- A valid driver’s license and daily access to a reliable vehicle to travel to various work sites is required
- In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate
