**Who we are**: Tropicana Community Services, a Toronto-based multi-service organization, provides all youth, newcomers, people of Black and Caribbean heritage and others in need with opportunities and alternatives that lead to success and positive life choices. Our mission is achieved through culturally appropriate programs such as counselling, childcare, educational, and employment services and youth development.
**Who we look for**: Reporting to the Manager of Employment Programs, the Employment Outreach Program Coordinator is responsible for leading the processes of recruiting, placing and monitoring in the Integrated Employment Services program. The Employment Outreach Program Coordinator will develop and implement strategies to connect job seekers with employment opportunities, with targeting those with multiple and complex barriers to employment. They will assist clients with job readiness skills, job search strategies, and resume writing while also building relationships with employers and community partners.
**What you will do**:
- Prepare outreach and recruitment materials, as directed.
- Assist with outreach activities and information sessions in community centres, schools, etc., to recruit participants for the program.
- Conduct weekly and/or daily communication with clients to ensure safety, progress and successful completion of the program. Complete monitoring check-ins and follow-ups.
- Develop trusting relationships with individual participants or with assigned groups.
- Provide one-on-one and group support to address client issues/needs. Make referrals as necessary, in collaboration with your supervisor.
- Use critical thinking skills to report/perform crisis intervention when necessary.
- Interview participants to obtain employment history, educational background and career goals. Select participants based on the System Service Manager's guidelines and demonstrated needs.
- Facilitate engaging and interactive job readiness skills group sessions for program participants.
- Foster relationships - with school boards, social workers, youth outreach workers, Children’s Aid Society, Probation Officers, City of Toronto, social service and community agencies.
- Inspect work places to ensure safety and acceptable training and working environments.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure program goals and recruitment targets are met.
- Track outreach activities to employers and maintain accurate records of recruitment effort.
**What you will need**:
- Secondary or post-secondary education; (in a related field with an accredited educational institution; students welcome)
- Experience working with people, particularly those with barriers.
- Knowledge of career development strategies and community resources an asset.
- A self-starter who is results-oriented self-motivated and organized.
- Ability to maintain detailed records and reports.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite, online databases and virtual meeting platforms.
**To be qualified for this position under the Canada Summer Jobs Program, you must also**:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
