**About the Role**:
We are urgently seeking a compassionate and dynamic **Director of Care** to lead our team and provide exceptional care for our residents in a fast paced environment. As the Director of Care, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of resident care, including clinical program management, staff leadership, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in enhancing the quality of life for residents by developing and maintaining personalized care plans, fostering a supportive work environment for staff, and collaborating with the broader community to meet the needs of our residents.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**Resident Care Leadership**:
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of personalized care plans that meet the needs of each resident, ensuring high standards of care and quality of life.
- Lead clinical programs such as Falls Prevention, Skin and Wound Care, Continence Care, Pain Management, and Palliative Care to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and best practices.
- Implement and monitor individualized care plans in alignment with government regulations and organizational policies.
- Lead risk management initiatives by reviewing incident reports and working closely with team members to ensure safety and compliance.
- Serve as the IPAC Lead for community IPAC initiatives, ensuring best practices are followed in infection prevention and control. Work collaboratively with staff and the broader community to implement infection control strategies that protect both residents and staff.
**Team Leadership & HR Management**:
- Lead, mentor, and develop nursing staff through recruitment, orientation, training, and performance management.
- Ensure that all nursing staff receive appropriate continuing education and development to maintain a high level of competence in their roles.
- Foster a positive, supportive work environment that empowers staff to achieve organizational goals and deliver excellent care.
- Manage staffing levels and ensure the appropriate delegation of work assignments to meet the needs of residents while adhering to budgetary constraints.
- Conduct regular team meetings and encourage open communication, problem-solving, collaboration among team members, and individual growth.
**Operational & Financial Management**:
- Manage the nursing services budget and ensure that all resources, including staffing and supplies, are utilized effectively within the nursing envelope.
- Prepare and monitor monthly expense reports related to the nursing department's budget.
- Review and analyze all relevant clinical and operational reports, including Ministry of Labour inspections, RHRA inspections, Public Health inspections, and Accreditation reports.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including the RHRA (Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority), and maintain adherence to the Standards of Nursing Practice and relevant legislation.
**Risk Management & Compliance**:
- Ensure that clinical programs are regularly evaluated and updated to meet the needs of residents, and in compliance with legislative requirements.
- Review and investigate complaints, and take appropriate corrective actions in line with RHRA (Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority) guidelines.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond as required to urgent issues, ensuring timely resolutions and follow-up.
**Community Engagement & Communication**:
- Act as an advocate for residents, families, and staff, fostering positive, open communication within the home and the broader community.
- Collaborate with residents, families, and the multi-disciplinary team to ensure personalized and effective care plans.
- Contribute to the development and coordination of relevant marketing strategies for the home and its programs and services.
- Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and external agencies.
**Qualifications**:
**Education & Certifications**:
- Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Valid Driver’s License (G2 minimum).
- Knowledge of RHRA (Retirement Homes Regulatory Authority) an asset.
- GPA Training certificate with the Alzheimer's Society or other similar certification an asset.
- P.I.E.C.E.S. or U-First Training Certificate an asset.
**Experience**:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience in a retirement home or healthcare setting, with a focus on nursing management and clinical care.
- At least 1 year of experience as an RPN in a retirement home/long term care setting is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience in a healthcare setting, with a proven ability to lead and develop nursing teams.
