**Job Summary**
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Officer will play a key role in developing and implementing internal and external communication programs to foster and maintain authentic, mutually beneficial relationships between the board, schools and our communities.
**Key Responsibilities**
As the Communications Officer, your responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the research and development of new strategic communications plans to support Board initiatives and goals; implementation of communications plans/programs; development of communications materials; media and stakeholder relations, including media monitoring and content development; support for diversity and inclusion communications plans; social media planning; plan and coordinate special events; communication support and strategic counsel to senior administration, trustees, and to school and Board department staff as needed, including urgent/unexpected projects and announcements; research and write concise, clear content using a wide variety of communication tools. Other related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
- Degree or diploma in Public Relations or Communications or equivalent related education and directly related experience
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in progressively responsible positions
- Outstanding writing and strategic communication planning skills
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Suite, SharePoint, PowerPoint and other web development software
- Experience in media relations, issues management, special events and print production
- Knowledge of public relations practices and principles
- Knowledge of Ministry of Education and Board policies, procedures and regulations
- Ability to work under high pressure and tight timelines
- Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment
**Additional Skills & Assets**
- Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)
- Accredited Business Communicator (ABC)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
