**About Us**:
Through valued relationships across the Government of Alberta, with Indigenous peoples, stakeholders and the public, the Lands Planning Branch engages with Albertans in developing land use plans to manage human activities and natural resources. Land use plans weigh and integrate multiple desired land uses, Treaty rights, ways of knowing and values across temporal and spatial scales to achieve environmental, economic, social and cultural outcomes.

**Role**:
The rich diversity of Alberta’s natural resources plays an important role in our culture, health and livelihood, which is supported by careful integrated land use planning.

Integrated Resource Planners work with multi-disciplinary teams and a variety of Government of Alberta colleagues to coordinate and develop sub-regional and issue specific plans. As an effective project manager, you will accomplish this through collaboration with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders, Indigenous peoples and the public, ensuring plans include: clear governance and responsibilities, well-defined objectives, measurable outcomes, achievable strategies and actions, and adaptive management processes. You will also play a critical role in supporting staff and clients as plans are implemented, providing interpretation and problem solving as issues arise.

This position has a specific emphasis on supporting the department’s Crown Land Vision, particularly on recreation planning and management of land use activities in order to support biodiversity and watershed outcomes. This involves development of sub-regional landscape management plans that align and integrate provincial strategic direction to support Indigenous values and use, species at risk, economic activities and recreational use. You will also be involved in other types of planning, such as comprehensive recreational trail planning, watershed and water management plans and other local or issue-specific land use plans.

The Integrated Resource Planner will be interested in tackling challenging projects that require strong leadership skills to manage and collaborate with cross-ministry teams and stakeholders in delivering a coordinated sub-regional plan. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively build relationships within, across, and outside of the department while ensuring the development of plans meets requirements under strict timeframes.

**Qualifications**:
University Degree such as Bachelor’s in land use planning, geological sciences, environmental science, natural resource management, or related field combined with a minimum of four years of progressively responsible related experience in recreation/environmental planning or management.

**Equivalencies**: Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of:

- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

**Assets**:

- Awareness of legislation such as the Alberta Land Stewardship Act, Public Lands Act, Water Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Forests Act, Oil Sands Conservation Act, Mines and Minerals Act, and Wildlife Act.
- Knowledge of ministry business plan, organizational structure, and GOA policies and priorities related to public land management.
- Understanding of the Public Lands Administration Regulation, in particular sections related to recreation management, public land use zones, and disturbance management.
- Advanced understanding of issues and trends relating to land use and natural resource management in Alberta and beyond.
- Knowledge of policy development process, planning process and public consultation/engagement methodologies and techniques.
- Knowledge of project management methods and processes.
- Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze, interpret and map spatial data.
