**SUMMARY**:
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing and administering employment initiatives, to include but not limited to issues related to recruiting, employment, pre-employment and on-boarding, compensation, and the applicant tracking system Workday. This position also participates in issues related to employee relations, benefits, payroll, and other areas within Human Resources as needed.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Employee Life Cycle
- Hires: Obtains processing status of pending background/drug tests; updates HR Manager as appropriate. Initiates employment offer letters, ID creation and, and enters necessary payroll information.
- Onboards: Administers the onboarding of employees and where appropriate, pre-boarding, i.e. staying in touch with them, answering their questions, sending them relevant material.
- Performance Reviews: Assist HR Manager with coordination of annual reviews and appropriate record keeping.
- Performance Management: At direction of the HR Manager, prepare documentation, track, file and handle disciplinary actions.
- Employment Verification: Write and verify employment information for current and former employees.
- Compensation/Job Changes: Timely processing of promotions, transfers, demotions, pay change transactions upon HR Manager approval.
- Employee Files: Creates employee files at time of hire. Files employee lifecycle documents into appropriate employee files daily, ensuring files are current at any time.
- Employment Status Changes:
- Leaves (unpaid/paid) - Process event in HRIS/Payroll, gather documentation, engage with benefits/leaves provider, and update records accordingly.
▪ COVID-19 Tracking: Ensure all COVID 19 tracking and return to work documentation is collected and saved in employee files.
- Terminations: Process events in HRIS/Payroll and ensures final pay and vacation/sick accruals to Payroll.
▪ **Voluntary Only** Complete exit interview forms.
- Start-ups: Provide research for Indigenous Partnership opportunities on bids. Assist HR Partner where required.
- Other duties as required.
- Benefits_
- Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations.
- Manager weekly indemnity claims by collecting paperwork, coordinating with benefits provider, and checking on employee status.
- Assist with employee benefit inquiries.
- Administer company pension plan including enrollments, changes and terminations.
- Employee Relations_
- Intakes: Assist in capturing initial employee concern(s) and submitting it accordingly to the respective HR leader for handling and resolving.
- Conducts employee engagement surveys as directed and generates reports for the HR Manager.
- Schedules new employee check-ins at prescribed intervals to gauge the workplace environment.
- Ensures confidentiality of all Human Resources issues, employee matters and firm matters.
- Develops, schedules, and conducts technical, management, and interpersonal skills training to improve employee performance as directed by the HR Manager.
- Maintains departmental activity in the absence of HR Manager; contacts team members as needed for guidance.
- Payroll_
- Generate bi-weekly reporting for pay cycles: notify of new hires, terminations, leaves and positions changes. Check for accuracy prior to processing.
- Provide ROE codes to payroll for processing on all terminations.
- Provide payout information for terminations where applicable.
- Verify banking changes, where applicable.
**Generalist Expectations**
Successful individuals must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and oral) to effectively support and represent the HR Department. The ability to multitask and demonstrate superior prioritization skills as well as the ability to work well under pressure in the team’s fast-paced environment, while maintaining a good perspective on the larger picture/impact is a must. Individuals must exercise discretion and good judgment daily, particularly when handling confidential and/or sensitive employee information. Individuals must be able to work with a high degree of independence and must have the ability to work overtime in the evening and/or on weekends when necessary.
**Required Skills/Abilities**:
- Excellent skills in communication and customer service.
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
**Education and Experience**:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years related experience required in multiple HR discipline areas.
