Baycoat is currently the largest steel coil coater in Canada. Baycoat employs a workforce of approximately 175, operating two coating lines capable of accommodating numerous paint systems, offering well over 1,000 colours. These coating lines currently paint over 200,000 tons of steel annually, serving customers in various markets, including the residential and commercial construction markets. Baycoat began operations in 1965 as a joint venture between Dofasco and Stelco, Canada's two major steel companies. Baycoat was formed to meet the growing demand for pre-painted steel. Over the years, Baycoat has proven itself a safe, reliable company, offering high-quality products that are cost-efficient and timely. Baycoat recently celebrated 50 years of ongoing success. The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist will have the following responsibilities: **Main Responsibilities**: - Ensures compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental legislation to meet municipal, provincial and federal regulations and liaises with related agencies. - Develops, maintains and presents training programs to meet legislative and Baycoat requirements. - Provides support to Supervisors in resolving safety concerns and leads accident investigations; facilitates shift safety meetings to provide training and safety updates as required. - Prepares safety meeting topics and presentations as needed. - Prepares presentations for monthly manager meetings and quarterly board meetings. - Provides proactive, timely leadership by analyzing safety issues and implementing environmental and health and safety changes. - Oversees the Confined Space Program, including performing audits to ensure compliance. - Performs safety orientations for all employees and contractors as required. Ensure appropriate clearances/insurance is available for all contractors. - Minimizes costs associated with the disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes generated at Baycoat and arranges disposal. Maintain Baycoat's "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" Program and the Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) System. - Maintains all records and data pertaining to areas of responsibility. - Ensures Safety Data Sheets for all materials purchased or brought into Baycoat are current. - Completes and submits all required environmental documentation and data, including but not limited to National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) reporting, Chemical Management Plan, GHG, Toxic Reduction Act, Air Emissions, Certificates of Approval, waste discharges, City Bylaw requirements, etc. - Reports all environmental spills to the appropriate level of government. - Serves as a management member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. - Responsible for being the X-Ray Safety Officer. If you don't have training in the area, you must be willing to train as an X-Ray Safety Officer. - Liaises with safety and environment-related officials, including the Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Environment, City of Hamilton and Transport Canada. **Working Hours**: - Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm with occasional evenings and weekends. **Compensation Package**: - Compensation commensurate with experience. - Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance, Gain Sharing and Pension. **Education and Qualifications**: - 2-3 years of post-secondary education in Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene. - Working towards or willing to work towards Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation would be an asset. - 3-5 years of related experience in health and safety and environmental requirements in a manufacturing environment. - In-depth knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation and regulations, including waste management and waste disposal. - Excellent knowledge of chemicals and risk management to minimize the effects. - Ability to objectively analyze data and patterns to develop solutions to challenges. - Proficiency in MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel). - Project management experience as it pertains to the environment, health and safety. - Ability to create business proposals for training and equipment with cost-benefit analysis and data. **Skills and Competency Requirements**: - Detail Oriented. - Organized. - Able to deal with conflicting demands. - Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. - Team player.
