**Primary Purpose**

Reporting to the HR Supervisor - Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Advisor seeks to improve the performance of employees throughout the organization by enhancing their skills and competencies through coordinating various training initiatives while also offering consultation and support. The Employee Relations Advisor will organize programs that drive the development and engagement of employees, aligning with the organization's long-term goals and objectives. The ability to communicate effectively, resolve problems strategically, and collaborate across various teams, departments, and situations is essential. High intrapersonal and organizational skills are considered assets in this position. The Employee Relations Advisor is expected to be customer service-oriented and exhibit a high degree of diplomacy and discretion.

**Specific Responsibilities**

The Employee Relations Advisor is responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the University:

- Responsible for maintaining confidential HR documents and files, ensuring all required documentation is provided and up to date
- Assist HR Supervisor in providing day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
- Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation as required
- Supporting HR Supervisor in promoting, communicating, and implementing human resources programs and initiatives
- Assist with research on various ESA and provincial laws for policy creation
- Audit, maintain, and ensure compliance with company policies and ESA guidelines
- Support the development and delivery of effective employee engagement tools are developed, maintained, and evaluated to ensure effectiveness
- Support employee engagement initiatives, including but not limited to on-campus, off-campus events, event planning, and execution
- Support all employee recognition events
- Provide employees day-to-day general support by answering questions related to their terms of employment, policies, employee relations, and entitlements
- Research and provide updates to provincial laws and changes to the Employment Standards Act (ESA)
- Ensure that payroll is compliant with ESA regulations of the relevant province and internal policies
- Develop working knowledge of the benefits provided by the group
- Other duties as assigned

**Position Requirements**

To be successful in the Employee Relations Advisor position, an individual must possess and be committed to developing, maintaining, and demonstrating the following:

- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner
- Proven ability to build positive customer relationships at all levels
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and organize multiple tasks effectively and see them through to timely completion
- Experience with conflict resolution
- Works well under pressure and meets tight deadlines
- Employee engagement projects and implementation
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint knowledge

**Education and experience**
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with an HR concentration
- Minimum 2+ years of HR administrative experience
- General understanding of BC employment standards and legislation
- Benefits administration experience would be an asset
- CPHR preferred but not required
- Proficiency with Human Resource Information System (Cezanne or ADP Workforce Now)
- Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
