Working closely with the Manager, External Relations - Gateway Strategy, the External Relations Advisor is responsible for providing advice to develop, coordinate, and implement stakeholder engagement, outreach, and communications programs. These programs are focused on business, industry, and association stakeholder audiences. This position participates in, and may lead, external relations activities including the development of relationships with key stakeholders, negotiation of sponsorship agreements, meeting and event arrangements, strategy development, reports, speaking and briefing notes, policy position papers, presentations and other materials.

The External Relations Advisor will:
**Communications, Advocacy and Engagement**
- Identify, build and maintain strategic relationships with identified stakeholders, researching and advising on opportunities to collaborate and build clear understanding of the port authority’s role, mandate, projects and initiatives.
- Develop and implement business, association, chamber/board of trade and stakeholder engagement plans and activities, including participating/facilitating in events, meetings, conventions, outreach programs, and providing presentations, briefings and tours as required.
- Develop communications materials such as policy positions, key messages, speaking notes, presentations, briefing notes, event notes and plans, web and newsletter copy, general correspondence, etc. to advocate for port authority positions and build greater understanding of the port authority with external audiences.
- Liaise with colleagues across the organization to ensure alignment and common understanding of current issues and activities, working collaboratively to develop engagement plans and activities in support of port authority-led projects, positions, or initiatives.

**Events and Sponsorship**
- Develop and maintain relationships with chambers of commerce, boards of trade and associations.
- Recommend opportunities to leverage the port brand at various stakeholder-led events, securing senior executive participation and preparing presentations and speaking notes and other materials, as appropriate.
- Coordinate calendar invites, speaking notes and presentations, attendance, registration and other items related to events under the external relations portfolio.
- Coordinate the graphic design of communications and outreach materials, working closely with customer engagement colleagues and corporate communications as required.

**Gateway Strategy**
- Work with project and communications colleagues assigned to gateway strategy and other port-enhancing projects and activities to collaborate on business and association communications, ensuring external relations activities are timely, coordinated and impactful.
- Ensure external relations materials and content for outreach activities are prepared with key stakeholder audiences in mind, working with customer engagement colleagues, communications, and decision support teams as required.
- Coordinate meetings with international delegations from trade and embassy offices and work with government relations and customer engagement colleagues to ensure all activities related to these events are executed on-time, on-budget and within established scope.

**Issue Monitoring, Research and Reporting**
- Monitor, identify, analyze and provide recommendations on current and emerging issues that may impact corporate initiatives.
- Track association, chamber and board of trade resolutions, policy and advocacy positions and strategic relationships, providing advice on their implications.
