The Design Technology Technician is responsible for integrating current and emergent design technology tools that align with best teaching practices, within all areas of our Grade 5 to Grade 8 curriculum, with an emphasis on Math and Science. This position supports and builds capacity in the use of design technology to further develop learning outcomes and builds core design technology skills using a design framework and process with both faculty and students. This includes providing teacher support, integration within classrooms and lab, skills development, appropriate and safe use of tools and the development of new techniques and learning opportunities. This position will participate as a team member to continue to move the school forward at the leading edge of technology based education.

**Specific Accountabilities**- Proactively supports Grade 5 to 8 teachers in their effort to continue developing a fully envisioned STEAM program- Collaborates and consults with teachers in use and integration of design technology (DT) tools in the curriculum- Deepens teachers understanding and use of DT for learning by delivering planned or just-in-time skills development-
- Supports students in the use and training of DT tools i.e., managing 3D printing, laser cutting, coding and other technical work that can be done in class and after class- As part of a larger DT and Technology Integration team, develops and delivers skills-based professional learning for teachers- As part of a team, participates in research, testing and pilots on current and/or emergent tools as well as best use practices relevant to the BSS learning environment and strategic directions. Participates in the selection process of new technologies- Reviews, updates and establishes new safety procedures that orient both faculty and students on important practices as they use the tools and the spaces, including teaching best practice health and safety procedures- Maintains and services equipment, including but not limited to, licenses, software and hardware servicing and updates- Manages and monitors equipment and materials inventory. Proactively places orders, receives and restocks as necessary and provides required paperwork to Accounts Payable Administrator- Keeps work areas clean, neat and organised- Embeds diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging values into all activities- Commits to the Staff Growth and Evaluation Process- Participates in professional learning and growth

**Skills, Experience and Attributes**- Strong experience with design technology tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, routing tools, robotics, coding (e.g. Scratch), makerspace tools.- Expertise in design thinking and integrating technology that meaningfully align with Grade 5 - Grade 8 curricular outcomes, specifically math and science- Up to date with emergent design technology tools- Strong working knowledge and experience with the Apple platform including software and hardware- Proven team building and teamwork skills encompassing diverse work groups- Strong organizational, multitasking skills, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills- Interested and able to work in a complex and changing environment- A growth mindset of continuous improvement and learning- Culturally competent with a positive attitude toward cultural uniqueness and a readiness to accept and respect others- Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment- Strong verbal and written communication as well as interpersonal skills- Good research and writing skills- Proficiency in Google Suite
