Mount Forest, Canada Sharon Village Care Homes - Strathcona Long Term Care Full time

**Strathcona Long Term Care **is a state-of-the-art Long Term Care home in Mount Forest, Ontario. We have a current opening for an enthusiastic, skilled Behaviour Support Personal Support Worker. This position is funded for 56 hours bi-weekly (26 hrs/week). Working hours vary between day and evening shifts. **This is a temporary part time position (Maternity Leave Coverage).**

Reporting to the Director of Care and BSO Lead, the Behavioural Supports PSW will be a key point of contact within the LTC home focused on the care of residents with predictable, responsive behaviours. The goal of the position is to decrease the responsive behaviours exhibited by the resident, therefore improving the working conditions for LTC staff and improving the life of the resident.

**Qualifications / Experience**
- Certified as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) as per the requirements of the Long-Term Care Act
- Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Minimum three years experience in long -term care with clients eg day programs or residents in a long-term care home setting

**Additional Education/Certificates**
- Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach, U-First, and/or Validation Communication (or willing to obtain)

**Additional Skills Required**
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill working with individuals with various types of dementia, delirium, mental health, addictions, other neurological conditions, and those who experience an acute behavioural change
- Effective communication skills and ability to initiate and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration
- Familiarity with the Long-Term care Act and Regulations and policies / procedures related to Abuse Free Environment, Restraints and Code of Conduct and Prevention of Violence in the Workplace
- Demonstrated excellent clinical-reasoning and critical thinking skills to ensure preventative and early detection skills; strong assessment, intervention
- Ability to coach and mentor team members
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to meet physical and safety conditions
- Demonstrated basic computer skills (Point Click Care experience an asset)
- Demonstrated professional work ethic
- Proven good attendance record, organizing and prioritizing work effectively

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Part-time hours: 28 per week
