**Carpenter**

**Reporting to**:Foreperson

**Location**:Ottawa West

Carpenter’s construct, erect, install, maintain, and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials. Assist with the construction of commercial, industrial and low rise buildings.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Operate and care for construction equipment and machine
- Assist equipment operators and other skilled labours as required
- Follow direction as provided by supervisor/foreman
- Prep construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards
- Load and unload construction material
- Perform site clean-up
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay sub-flooring, and install walls and roofing systems
- Fit and install trim, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware
- Measure, cut, and join wooden materials, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials
- Maintain, repair, and renovate wooden structures

**Requirements**:

- 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Valid driver’s license and own mode of transportation
- Ability to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions (cold, rain, heat, etc,)
- Ability to meet physical demands of job
