**Job Description** AECOM** is seeking a passionate** Indigenous Engagement Specialist** to ensure tremendous outcomes from work we do with our clients and our Indigenous partners. This is a permanent full-time position. This position will report to the Manager, Community Engagement & Communication and can be based at any of our Canadian offices. As part of the Environment Business Line, in the Impact Assessment and Permitting Group, on the Community Engagement and Communications Team, you'll be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff. This position is accountable for driving, planning and carrying out Indigenous engagement, working collaboratively with Indigenous groups and communities on studies as part of environmental assessment (EA) and permitting processes, and contributing to the development of our Indigenous engagement practice.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- Working with multi-disciplinary teams and project managers to understand the Projects’ needs and in turn, strategically developing Indigenous engagement plans and activities on behalf of our clients
- Developing and maintaining consultation and engagement records, including issues identification and management
- Authoring consultation and engagement summaries for the purpose of regulatory submission
- Supporting the development of Indigenous Knowledge and Traditional Land Use studies
- Assessing the impacts of projects on Indigenous rights and interests, and developing mitigation and monitoring programs in response to potential impacts
- Assisting with the management of project budgets and schedules, as well as internal and external document control
- Supporting the growth of our service offering in the Indigenous engagement space through the development of project proposals and other business development activities
- Understanding the importance of confidentiality and appropriate handling of culturally significant and often protected data when working with Indigenous communities
- Managing the exceptional execution of deliverables and tasks, including mentoring, delegating, overseeing and evaluating the work of junior staff

**Qualifications** Minimum Requirements**:

- A degree or professional designation is preferred (such as social sciences), although proven practical experience is essential
- 6+ years working in a similar role
- A valid driver licence and access to transportation

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- An in-depth working knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and governance
- An in-depth knowledge of the Canadian regulatory and policy context, Federal and Provincial Impact Assessment Processes - including leading practice in Indigenous engagement and participation
- Practical experience working with Indigenous leadership and communities in Canada
- Great communication skills, both oral and written. Knowledge of an Indigenous language would be an asset. Knowledge of both English and French would be an asset
- 4+ years professional writing experience including: plain language, AODA, web-content, internal and external communications
- Familiarity with stakeholder engagement programs including (but not limited to) StakeTracker and Borealis would be considered an asset
- Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis and facilitation are an asset
- Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem solving and time management skills
- Good interpersonal communication skills; this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders, client management and the public
- Strong knowledge of project coordination/ management concepts and processes
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and remotely, if required
