**JOB SUMMARY**:
Under the direction of the Manager, International Student Success & Wellbeing, the International Student Transition Coordinator will work in a collaborative environment supporting international learners at Algoma University. This position offers direct one-on-one transition support services to International students by coordinating prevention, intervention, and follow-up support efforts across campus and community systems to assist at-risk and high needs students, students facing crises, life traumas, and other barriers that impede success The position is responsible for contributing to implementation, and evaluation of a holistic student wellness framework designed to meet the needs of a diverse international student body.

The Transition Coordinator will play a vital role in monitoring students, developing personalized action plans, and facilitating referrals to both on-campus and off-campus resources. Additionally, this role will contribute to various programs, training, and workshops for faculty, staff and students that foster holistic student development and success, with a strong emphasis on cultural sensitivity and inclusion. The position will also contribute to the development of strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for wellness support and violence prevention.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Transition Advising (60%)**
- Act as the primary point of contact for international students, and address their unique transition needs by developing and implementing personalized action plans.
- Provide comprehensive support to international students in areas such as cultural adjustment, transitional strategies, and overall settlement by offering information and resources on housing, local transportation, government services, spiritual connections, available community resources.
- Support students by sharing valuable tips essential for students' safety, well-being, and academic success.
- Facilitate appropriate university connections and referrals to address student concerns and needs, encompassing academic, health and wellness, financial, career, and other areas.
- Provide personalized guidance and advice that is culturally inclusive around the areas of homelessness/displacement, food insecurity, legal aid, financial literacy, childcare, harm reduction, immigration, settlement, transportation, family pressures, cultural shock, recreation and social spots and activities, intercultural communication, community connections, etc.
- Support students in utilizing University and community services and benefits by facilitating warm referrals, and monitoring and tracking student progress.
- Follow up with students regarding referrals, conduct ongoing assessments, and address new or emerging concerns as they arise.
- Facilitate smooth transitions from campus services to external providers (e.g., psychiatric/psychological treatment services, housing, food, etc.), and vice versa, back to appropriate University services.
- Provide crisis intervention to students in partnership with other teams dedicated to student support, addressing urgent and clearly identifiable requirements like shelter, nourishment, financial aid, transportation, legal assistance and other social determinants of health.
- Provide support to students and the Student Success team members when working with International students who require escalated settlement and wellness referrals.
