Computer Programming Instructor

**Location**: Burnaby, BC
**Start Date**: June 30, 2025
**Duration**: 8 weeks
**Hours**: 35 hours/week
**Wage**: $17.40/hour

CentreCanada is hiring a Computer Programming Instructor to teach youth the fundamentals of computer programming as part of our 2025 Summer School program. The role will involve teaching programming logic, digital literacy, and hands-on coding skills to youth with varying levels of experience. Emphasis will be placed on fostering creativity, collaboration, and confidence in technology use.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver a structured curriculum introducing programming concepts such as variables, conditionals, loops, and functions
- Teach programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or HTML/CSS depending on student interest and level
- Introduce version control, clean code principles, and basic debugging techniques
- Support students in understanding how coding can be applied to real-life problems and careers
- Provide one-on-one support to students struggling with concepts or needing additional guidance
- Use visual and interactive tools (e.g., Scratch, Replit, Visual Studio Code) to enhance understanding
- Facilitate teamwork and communication through collaborative assignments
- Track student engagement, learning milestones, and project outcomes
- Other duties as assigned, including assisting with end-of-program showcases or tech-related activities

CentreCanada Newcomer Services Society is a community-based, not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the settlement, education, and integration of newcomer families across the Lower Mainland. Through inclusive programming, mentorship, and educational services, we work to empower youth, strengthen families, and build bridges between communities. Our summer school program provides newcomer youth with enriching, supportive, and skill-building experiences that prepare them for success both inside and outside the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of programming fundamentals and instructional experience in coding or tech literacy
- Passion for technology education and encouraging youth participation in STEM
- Experience mentoring or teaching in a classroom or community setting
- Turkish language fluency strongly preferred
- Familiarity with CentreCanada’s programming or similar youth-focused education initiatives

Pay: $17.85 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
