Job Overview
KCC is seeking a passionate and committed HCA Instructor (Theory & Clinical), who will play a vital role in delivering theory and practical lab instruction aligned with KCC's HCA program goals. Reporting to the Regional Director, you will be responsible for coordinating clinical training, ensuring students meet learning outcomes, and maintaining the quality of educational experiences.
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Hours: 8 Hours (Morning - Day shift)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality lectures and demonstrations aligned with curriculum objectives and KCC policies and procedures.
- As a clinical instructor, responsible for taking the students on a Multi-Level/complex Care Practicum. The instructor will be involved in teaching clinical skills to students and evaluating their evaluation of clinical skills.
- Update and maintain course outlines and instructional materials in collaboration with the academic team.
- Administer and grade assessments, quizzes, and exams according to program guidelines.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and performance assessments, and enter grades into the Learning Management System (LMS) promptly.
- Provide mentorship and support to students while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Participate actively in course reviews and updates to ensure compliance with current industry and regulatory standards.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and educational training as required by PTIRU and KCC policies.
- Respond promptly and professionally to student and faculty communications via the college's official email system.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provisional registration) full registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) 36; and
- Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations37 and student course evaluations); and
- Two or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members, and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings.
- Evidence of completion of coursework in Indigenous cultural safety and humility (e.g., San'yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or an alternative training program)39; and
- Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course is available on the Learning Hub as part of their orientation/onboarding. This will support a current understanding of the role of the HCA within BC.
Nursing work experience to include:
- Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and
- Experience or orientation in in-home support and multi-level/complex care.

- Other faculty qualifications may be considered for the Interpersonal Communications course (e.g., an undergraduate degree in a Health or Human Services field).
