**About the Role**:
The Casual Exam Scribe provides assistance to students who experience disability-related barriers preventing the use of dictation in the Accommodated Exam Centre. The Exam Scribe must be familiar with the post-secondary learning context, be comfortable working with a diverse group of students with varying needs, specifically in one-on-one situations, and possess the ability to develop positive working relationships with numerous community members. The Exam Scribe must possess strong interpersonal, communication, time management, reading, and writing skills and be willing to work on an on-call basis, which may require working a short shift within the day. Students who experience disability related barriers have access to a wide range of assistive technology; however, the Exam Scribe must be able to provide services due to the student's inability to access the assistive technology.

**Must be available to work on call with a student any time between 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Exam times and frequency of shifts will vary.**

**Responsibilities**:

- The Exam Scribe must be able to write and/or type for lengthy periods of time on behalf of a student.
- Scribe support requires efficiency and legibility, mindful of the exam time and in line with the student’s desired pace of exam completion.
- Must be able to support the student in handling testing materials that require manual dexterity.
- This position requires the Exam Scribe to be in the testing room with the student throughout the exam.

**Qualifications**:
**Education and Training**:

- Must be able to type 60-80 words per minute
- Previous experience in note-taking or dictation
- A minimum of a two-year diploma from a University or equivalent
- Experience working with adult learners with disability-related barriers
- Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, reading and writing skills
- Flexible and willing to work on an on-call basis
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Knowledge of issues faced by students experiencing disability related barriers;
- Knowledge of general office procedures
- Knowledge of how to save and print documents
- Knowledge of various assistive technologies, or willingness to learn
- Listening skills - understand the concerns community members may have and develop positive relationships
- Must be willing and able to communicate effectively within a team
- Demonstrate empathy, compassion and respect when interacting with community members
- Understand and comply with confidentiality requirements under FOIP legislation
- Be willing and able to accept and act on feedback from colleagues
- An ability to take initiative
- Resolve situations quickly, maintain confidentiality, and seek support when needed
- Excellent and effective organizational skills
- Must be detail-oriented
- Able to multitask accurately and efficiently
- Ability to manage time effectively
- Must be reliable and punctual

**Salary**:$23.39 per hour
