The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill the term position of **Parks Foreperson 2 - **Horticulture, Sports Fields and Cemetery. They will be responsible for scheduling and supervising City employees and contractors as well as coordinating materials, and small and large equipment in order to efficiently achieve a wide range of services. This position also coordinates the implementation of the Parks Safety and Risk Management programs. The Foreperson also undertakes new development inspections, various tendering processes, and fleet and small equipment assessment.
The portfolio for this Parks Foreperson 2 includes Parks Sports Fields, Permit Repairs, Transit Snow and Ice Control.
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent plus portfolio specific education.
- Four years of portfolio specific experience in parks maintenance/construction.
- Completion of first aid and C.P.R. courses required.
- Leadership for Safety Excellence Certificate required
- Valid Class 5 driver's license required.
- Leadership and Supervisory Training or courses in Office Management preferred.
**Portfolio Specific Requirements**:
Parks Horticulture, Sports Fields and Cemetery
- Additional Education: Landscape Gardener, Turf Management and Landscape Construction education or related courses and training an asset.
- Experience: Two years of progressive experience in landscape maintenance plus Two years’ experience in performing equipment inspections, evaluations and repairs.
Competencies & Skills:
- Ability to read plans and specifications.
- Knowledge of survey procedures.
- Knowledge of current environmental and ecological practices.
- Knowledge of municipal policies, procedures and bylaws.
- Ability to plan, assign and supervise equipment and staff efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to work with considerable independence in supervisory and budgetary activities.
- Ability to exert moderate physical effort on occasion and to work outside in all types of weather.
- Ability to operate, inspect and evaluate a wide variety of equipment typically used in parks landscaping and amenity maintenance. e.g. tractors, mowers, bucket trucks and chippers
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with staff and members of the public, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of general construction and maintenance practices and principals.
- Knowledge and experience with business software such as Excel, Word & PowerPoint.

80 hours biweekly; Monday to Friday 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.
