As the Assistant Park Superintendent, you will play a central role by assisting with day-to-day park operations including developing and administering provincial park and conservation reserve programs while protecting their natural, cultural, and recreational values. This position supports Woodland Caribou, Pakwash, Cheemuhnuhcheecheekuhtaykeehn, Opasquia, and Trout Lake Provincial Parks as well as Trout Lake, Eagle-Snowshoe, Whitemud, Hammel, Bruce, and Gull-Christina Conservation Reserves. The Ontario Parks' mission is to protect significant natural and cultural resources and maintain biodiversity in a system of provincial parks that is sustainable and provide opportunities for inspiration, enjoyment and discovery; now and for future generations. Woodland Caribou Provincial Park is a 480,000 hectare wilderness class park located 40 km west of the Municipality of Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. Located 2 hours north of Vermilion Bay (Hwy 17), Red Lake and area has a population of approximately 5,000 and offers church services of all denominations, good dental and medical facilities and both primary and secondary schools. Recreation facilities include 1 curling club, 1 indoor pool, 1 bowling alley, 2 outdoor and 1 indoor skating rink, squash and tennis courts, fitness centers, numerous baseball fields and an 18-hole golf course. Both rental and purchase accommodations are available. Staff accommodation is not available. Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation. **What can I expect to do in this role?**: In this role, you will: - schedule work, set priorities and ensure work is completed in a safe manner - ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained - supervise operations and programs in the park - assist in the preparation of operational plans and reports - prepare correspondence in response to public enquiry's and/or complaints - organize and administer the park enforcement program - explain park rules to park patrons and requesting compliance, issue warnings, intervene and carry out evictions **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory requirements**: - You must have the ability to be designated as a Park Warden and meet the ministry certification criteria and standards in the use of force. - You possess a valid class 'G' driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the province of Ontario to travel within and outside the park. - You possess or have the ability to obtain a Small Drinking Water Systems Operator Certificate. - You possess or have the ability to obtain a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card. - You must possess or have the ability to obtain certification from Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking (ORCKA) Association. - You must have the ability to work shifts, weekends and holidays as per schedule. **Leadership skills and knowledge**: - proven leadership abilities to supervise and develop staff effectively - knowledge of the principles and practices of managing emergency situations - able to enforce various acts and regulations within the park, and to act as supervisor and/or duty officer - knowledge and experience necessary to lead a team and to deal with difficult situations **Essential knowledge and skills**: - knowledge of procurement and accounting practices **Technical knowledge**: - demonstrated experience using various equipment such as chainsaws, cutters, lawn mowers, ATVs, kayaks, outboard motors and boats etc. - knowledge of general facility, grounds keeping, utility and equipment maintenance - knowledge of capital development to understand site development and construction plans - knowledge of small drinking water systems and water treatment facility maintenance **Communication and interpersonal skills**: - communication skills to effectively develop and manage relationships with staff, volunteers, visitors, service providers and other government agencies - ability to prepare correspondence, incident reports, operating/emergency plans, etc. - interpersonal and team building skills to provide leadership, m
