Reporting to the Director, Research, Innovation and International Relations or designate, the Library Assistant, Research and Scholarly Communications is responsible for providing a variety of services to users of the Health Sciences Library. This includes technical and administrative assistance to support access to the collection, research support and public services. This position works under the guidance of lead Librarians.

This position is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the OPSEU Unit 677 Collective Agreement (Unit 2). A copy is available on the NOSM University website.

**Responsibilities**: This position primarily supports Research & Scholarly Communications, which includes:

- Supports the Search Assistance service, including providing users with links to publications.
- Provides Copyright support by searching for and retrieving related Copyright details.
- Collects journal-related links and details to support the Scholarly Publishing Support service.
- Maintains the Faculty Publications database, including performing cyclical searches, importing results, validating citations and producing scheduled reports, in addition to, reports upon request.
- Supports and maintains the Institutional Repository.
- Provides related research support to the Research & Scholarly Communications Librarian.

Other Library Assistant responsibilities include:

- Coordinates interlibrary loan and document delivery services, managing user request and financial reconciliations.
- Participates in the information desk schedule, providing regular services such as quick reference and circulation.
- Responds and directs user requests and reference questions via related software tools.
- Collects, compiles and provides statistics for assessment and evaluation purposes.
- Participates in the creation and revision of policies, procedures, training tools and guides.
- Keeps abreast of library trends, researches and implements new services.
- Provides user orientations, public tours and staff related training as required.
- Performs assigned back-up responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- The minimum is a College diploma in Library and Information Services from a recognized institution with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A University degree in a health related discipline is preferred.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience in an academic library environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and reference management tools, such as RefWorks
- Familiarity with website editors and social media tools
- A thorough understanding of library specific systems and software such as integrated library systems, interlibrary loan, URL and collection maintenance tools, request trackers etc.
- Relevant library public service experience
- A thorough understanding of library technical and metadata standards
- Experience using library collections including health related databases, serials and monographs
- Proven experience in coordinating various tasks under deadlines
- Work within established organizational practices, protocols and policies

**Language**:

- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
