Library Clerk – Glace Bay (Part-Time)
The Cape Breton Regional Library invites internal and external applications for the position of Library Clerk (part-time) at the Glace Bay Library.
ABOUT THE LIBRARY
Cape Breton Regional Library's 11 branches serve our communities through access to information, technology, and programs that inspire learning and connection. We are seeking a friendly and tech-savvy individual to join our Glace Bay team as a Library Clerk. This role provides excellent customer service, assists with technology and digital resources, and supports a variety of library programs and events.
JOB DUTIES
Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting patrons, responding to inquiries in person, by phone, and online, and helping users access library materials and services.
Assist patrons with using public computers, printers, scanners, and other technology. Provide one-on-one help with everyday digital tasks and support patrons in accessing the Library's digital resources, including eBooks, audiobooks, and online databases.
Promote and provide basic instruction on the Library's digital library apps (e.g., Libby, Hoopla, PressReader) to help patrons access digital materials on their own devices.
Customer service and circulation duties, including checking out library materials, registering patrons for library cards, answering questions, assisting patrons with searching for and locating library materials, answering incoming phone calls, and notifying patrons of items ready for pick-up.
Assisting with program delivery, room setup, and program preparations.
Shelving duties, including sorting and returning library materials to their proper place on the shelves, straightening and shifting library materials.
Scheduling bookings for public access computers and providing technical assistance with frequent tasks such as printing and scanning.
Promoting materials, programs, events, and services provided by the library.
Opening and closing of the library branch.
Accepting payments for printing and lost items.
HOURS OF WORK
A schedule of 24 hours per week will include days, evenings, and Saturdays.
Monday 1 – 6 pm Tuesday 3 – 8 pm Wednesday 3 – 8 pm
Thursday 3 – 8 pm Friday 2 – 6 pm
Please note that while there is a set schedule, shifts may change depending on branch needs and may include Saturdays or other hours as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working conditions include a combination of lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and carrying books and other library materials.
APPLICANTS MUST HAVE
Minimum requirement: a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional education or experience is considered an asset.
Experience working in a customer service environment with an inclusive and empathetic approach to serving the public.
Demonstrated ability to deliver friendly, patient, and respectful service to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships with the public, peers, and supervisors.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
Confidence using technology and troubleshooting basic issues, with an interest in learning new systems and helping others become more comfortable with technology.
Confidence with Windows-based word processing, spreadsheet applications, and web-based email applications.
Willingness to develop new skills and participate in professional development opportunities.
Experience with delivering programs or workshops to various age groups.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening will be required.
