Health Research Officer

Job Summary:
The Health Research Officer will conduct and analyze research to support Heart Niagara’s health promotion efforts, with a particular focus on cardiovascular health, the Mediterranean diet, and key health markers such as obesity, diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol, and nutrition. The officer will play a critical role in developing and promoting evidence-based interventions aimed at improving community health outcomes. This position requires a strong foundation in research methods, data management, and health promotion planning.

This position requires some flexibility in hours and availability, as it will include daytime and potentially evening hours to meet program demands. This position will be completed 100% in-person.

**Responsibilities**:

- Conduct comprehensive research reviews to gather data on cardiovascular health, lifestyle, and related health markers.
- Input, manage, and verify data to ensure accuracy and reliability for research and program development.
- Support school-based health interventions as a model for upstream health promotion, recognizing the role of schools as unique access points for population-wide health education.
- Analyze disease patterns within families and recommend strategies for targeted health promotion efforts.
- Contribute to the development of evidence-based programs and materials for community health promotion.
- Perform additional duties as required to support research and organizational goals.

Performance requirements:

- Strong knowledge and/or experience in research methods, including responsible data collection, data entry, and data management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for data handling and reporting.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills to synthesize research findings and inform program development.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and presenting findings.
- A proactive approach to identifying and implementing promising health promotion strategies.

**Qualifications**:

- Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
- Have a driver’s license and access to a vehicle (some workdays will be scheduled at secondary sites)
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

At work, leadership skills are required when working in a team, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks that require multiple employees.

**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 8 weeks

Pay: $18.50 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
