Student Experience encompasses various departments across three pillars: Wellness & Wellbeing, Sport & Recreation, and Leadership & Learning. Careers & Experience is part of the Leadership & Learning pillar along with Academic Support & Engagement. The Student Experience portfolio operates together to create an environment in which students can thrive and succeed. Student Experience also collaborates closely with the University Students’ Council, Society of Graduate Students, and other departments across campus. **Responsibilities**: The Manager, Career Education develops a clear vision for, and provides leadership to, the Career Education team to help Western students connect their academic learning to career paths and future goals in support of the University’s mission to build an equitable and thriving campus. The Manager supervises a team of Career Coaches, each of whom has the training and experience to meet the needs of an identified group of students (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, international), and ensures the strategic objectives of the unit are met. In consultation with the Director, Careers & Experience, and in collaboration with other Managers, they manage the development and delivery of a wide range of services and programs to support Western students and recent Alumni. This includes helping students connect their degree to future work, career decision-making, self-assessment, navigating equity, diversity, and inclusion concerns, and skills articulation, among others. Amid complexities magnified by different demographics, workforce changes, and student approaches to career exploration and decision-making, the Manager ensures all students have access to meaningful career education resources. **Qualifications**: **Education**: - Master's Degree in Education, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or related discipline - Career Development Practitioner Certification **Experience**: - 5 years’ experience in the career coaching/career services field - 2 years’ experience in Student Affairs - 3 years’ experience leading staff and teams - Experience working with post-secondary students at both the graduate and undergraduate level preferred - Experience working with equity-deserving groups preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Strong supervisory and coaching skills to facilitate staff development and performance evaluation - Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of a team to maximize productivity - Ability to motivate others to maintain quality services and programming in a constantly changing environment - Judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative leadership approach to addressing issues and opportunities - Ability to develop and deliver innovative programs based on best practices, and in response to emerging student and industry needs - Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategies that prioritize and support the needs of equity-deserving groups - Well-developed public speaking/communication and facilitation skills across a diverse spectrum of stakeholders (e.g., staff, faculty, students, partners) - Exceptional organizational skills, including managing multiple competing priorities and an ability to adapt quickly to emerging priorities - Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels within the university - A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills - Ability to understand basic research data; quantitative/qualitative research skills an asset **Background Checks**: While transcripts are not required for the interview, they are mandatory prior to any offer of employment. **Western Values Diversity**: Accommodations are available for applicants with disabilities throughout the recruitment process.
