**Who We Are**:
London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is a world-class academic health sciences centre located in the southwestern Ontario city of London. Just two hours from Toronto and two hours from Detroit, London features a beautiful and walkable downtown core located on the Thames River, a vibrant culinary scene and scores of activities that highlight local arts, culture and music. As one of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals, LHSC is a world-class innovator in clinical care, research and teaching, delivering both local and regional services, including the Children’s Hospital, within a large geographic area. LHSC has a workforce of close to 15,000, dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient care while working together to shape the future of health.
As a research-intensive teaching hospital, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has a rich legacy in health research, innovation and system leadership. These are core pillars of our mission. We have achieved more than 75 Canadian, North American and world firsts.
The diversity of care delivered at LHSC translates to a multifaceted research program. This consists of both discovery-based and clinical science. Our researchers are leaders in multiple fields such as paediatrics, cancer care, mental health, renal care, neuroscience and cardiac care. This work is accomplished through our own research enterprises (London Health Sciences Centre Research Inc. and Children’s Health Research Institute) and through a joint research venture (Lawson Health Research Institute).
Over the past year, we have been working to further develop our internal research opportunities at LHSC. A priority has been advancing the Academic Realignment Initiative, which aims to strengthen our academic mission and research capacity.
