- **This position is a summer contract (May - End of August), 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.**

**Position **S**ummary**:
Reporting to the Manager of Culture and Community, the Special Events Assistant Summer Student will provide exceptional customer service to residents, tourists, and vendors. This position will assist with the administration, planning, and organization of festivals, special events, and cultural activities.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Provide high standards of customer service to residents and tourists.
- Provide accurate information in a friendly and helpful manner as it relates to the events and attractions within the Town of Midland.
- Assist with administration, planning and day-of organization of festivals, special events and cultural activities.
- Interact with hundreds of artisans and vendors to ensure their needs are being met.
- Maintain accurate records of event surveys, visitor comments and attendance at events.
- Work with volunteers of all ages and abilities.
- Keep event details organized and up to date.
- Adhere to the Town of Midlands Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Currently between the ages of 15 - 30.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Certification in First Aid/CPR & WHMIS is an asset.
- Knowledge of Midland and area tourism locations, attractions, and events.
- Some knowledge of boating and of Georgian Bay is an asset.
- Knowledge of local tourism amenities.
- Excellent computer skills, particularly in Word and Excel and experience is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of tourism supporting businesses such as local accommodations, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, etc.
- Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing and a reliable vehicle is required.

**Effort/Physical Demands**:

- Physical demand requires standing, sitting, lifting, crouching and walking.
- Visual attention for health and safety compliance and personal safety while on the job.

**Working Conditions**:

- Standard office environment.
- Work occasional evenings and weekends for special events.
