We are looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator at our Walker Compost Facility in Arthur.

**Health and Safety Coordinator**

Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager, you will coordinate the health and safety processes within Walker Environmental to ensure that all employees are working safely and are adequately trained to perform their job safely and effectively. You will motivate and promote safe attitudes and behaviours consistent with our Superior Safety Culture through field-level worker engagement (approximately 80% in the field).

What you will do in this role:
**Health and Safety Program Implementation and Site Maintenance (60%)**:

- Promote and reinforce superior safety culture initiatives throughout the company to ensure work is being completed safely while adhering to ministry standards and company policies.
- Perform weekly on-site inspections/observations and audit physical conditions of site location, compile results, assign corrective actions and communicate the results to highlight areas for improvement. Follow up on concerns and corrective action completion.
- Evaluate and identify hazards through the facilitation and promotion of the hazard pyramid tools including the Safety Management System, Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment, Standard Operating Procedures, Field Level Hazard Assessments and Take 5 Smile cards.
- Assist site management in conducting thorough Incident Investigations, determine root cause and to ensure appropriate corrective actions are assigned. Ensure preliminary reports and notifications are submitted on time.
- Conduct annual audits to ensure compliance, conformance and best practices are being followed. Develop Corrective Action Plans in consultation with site management and tracks completion of actions.

**Training and Communication/ Networking and Relationships (40%)**
- Deliver new corporate safety initiatives and programs (as per Five Step process).
- Deliver Start-Up corporate messaging and/or facilitate Reset Day sessions to move the Superior Safety Culture forward.
- Provide support and mentoring to the Joint Health & Safety Committee for this location by attending meetings and conducting workplace inspections as prescribed.
- Provide quality communications at the site level through Safety Talks, Post-Incident Reset Messaging and Safety Alerts.
- Provides support for the worker compensation claims management process to ensure claim costs are controlled and the return to work program is effectively implemented.
- Respond to general questions or concerns related to policies and procedures.

**Qualifications**:

- A two-year college diploma, College Occupational Health and Safety certificate or equivalent level of education.
- Greater than one year experience in Occupational Health and Safety.
- First Aid/CPR training is an asset.
- You must possess a valid Driver’s License in order to travel to various work sites.

- You have experience dealing with WSIB claims and injury management.
- You have experience working around heavy equipment.
- you have experience using EHS Software.
- Certificates in NCSO, CRST or CRSP are considered an asset.
