We are looking for a Business Operations Manager at our Walker Compost Facility in Arthur, ON. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Resource Recovery, the incumbent oversees and manages the daily activities of the Arthur site ensuring compliance with health and safety, environmental, and labour legislation. The Business Operations Manager maintains the operations and sources methodologies to improve performance and efficiencies at the site, also supporting the Operations Managers and Supervisors in the management of daily activities to ensure compliance with legislation and efficient operation of the site. This is a permanent, full-time position. There is some travel required within the local area and surrounding townships.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Participate in defining and executing the overall business strategy, annual goals and objectives.
- Work in partnership with Sales and Marketing to execute the operational aspects of new product launches on the site.
- Build strong succession planning on site, developing and strengthening the talent bench and driving engagement of employees, in collaboration with Human Resources.
- Lead the operational aspects of the major capital expansion project on the Arthur site, with the Capital Projects team.
- Identify and lead the execution of continuous improvement programs to maintain and improve competitiveness in the market.
- Drive customer satisfaction through attention to market leading logistics, cost, quality and service.
- Maintain strong relationships with the community in which Arthur operates, including conducting tours of operations as necessary to support good stakeholder relations.
- Ensure that all Walker health & safety and environmental policies and procedures are adhered to and that daily activities are operating in accordance with all applicable regulations.
- Ensure operations are adhering to Superior Safety Culture, policies and procedures. Continuously improve site conditions to reduce and prevent accidents, maintaining compliance with WSIB clearance certificates.
- Complete documentation and produce reports related to health and safety, environmental, production and test results.
- Monitor and control operating budgets, costs and expenses to identify measures to increase profitability and reduce costs.
- Notify VP of Resource Recovery of adverse conditions affecting site operations.
- Review work on site for compliance with technical and contractual requirements.
**Skills/Qualifications**:
- 5-10 years of experience in the environmental, plant operations or construction industry.
- Strong familiarity with construction practices and applicable legislation, such as Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Advanced Computer Software Skills (i.e. Word, Excel, Project) to prepare documents, reports and schedules as required.
- Advanced customer service, interpersonal and communication skills to foster positive working relationships with all stakeholders, including senior management, contractors and sub-contractors.
- Ability to promote health and safety and environmental initiatives within the organization.
- Capable of interpreting and sharing highly technical information to colleagues, industry partners and customers.
- Strong sense of responsibility to ensure safe working conditions and environmental compliance.
- Must possess a Valid G Class Driver’s License.
