JOB SUMMARY

The UBC Sustainability Hub (SH) builds on UBC's position as a leader in campus sustainability, and works to reinforce the University's goal of providing an exceptional learning and research-rich environment that advances global citizenship and a civil and sustainable society. With a focus on deeply integrating existing academic and operational efforts in sustainability and generating new opportunities, the Sustainability Hub fosters collaboration within and outside UBC, and across all disciplines, to fulfill its mission. The Engagement Specialist supports the implementation of regional and international engagement activities that advance the overall mission of the UBC Sustainability Hub.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

Reports to the Senior Director, UBC Sustainability Hub. Supports other program managers in unit and program level engagement activities and projects.

WORK PERFORMED

The Engagement Specialist supports activities across the Sustainability Hub's Regional and International Engagement portfolio. In addition, the specialist will collaborate with key external partners and internal units.

The incumbent will support efforts that:

- Expand regional and international engagement partnerships
- Implement the portfolio strategies
- Project manage initiatives related to external network leadership
- Contribute to reporting efforts related to the Sustainability Hub’s regional and international engagement work

Key duties:

- Works with key internal and external partners and stakeholders to help advance the portfolio work
- Liaises with partners institutions and networks on initiatives and collaborative projects
- Develops project plans and project manages engagement activities and programs
- Conducts research, assessments and analysis
- Prepares reports and presentations
- Coordinates workshops and online engagement sessions
- Manages database of international peer institutions, forums and events
- Develops communication materials and resources to support engagement programs
- Tracks engagement activity, develops and manages evaluation processes
- Contributes content to newsletters, USI reporting and communications activities
- This position may require some work outside of regular work hours.

CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR

The incumbent is expected to operate with high degree of maturity, while working under broad guidelines. The consequence of error in this could be very serious for the University as it concerns the public image and profile of UBC on a provincial, national and international level. Poor decisions or lack of tact, diplomacy or sensitivity in dealing with faculty, industry and government contracts could potentially result in missed opportunities, damaged relationships and loss of credibility for the University.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The position reports to the Senior Director, UBC Sustainability Hub and takes direction from program managers on specific projects, and works with considerable independence. Work is reviewed against the achievement of specific goals and objectives.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

May manage the activities of work-learn student staff, including the assignment of duties and responsibilities and setting of priorities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
