Communications & Engagement Specialist

**About the Opportunity**
Our Vancouver branch is looking to add a communications and engagement specialist to our team. In this position, you will be involved in various communications and public engagement project work across Urban Systems' diverse practice areas, including transportation, community planning, land economics, and landscape architecture.
Along with supporting the existing team, you will also be given the opportunity to lead projects with members of our broader communications and engagement practice. This opportunity is well suited to those who have a keen interest in pushing forward with new ideas and who thrive when faced with new challenges.
Coupled with the unmatched learning and project experience opportunities, some of your key responsibilities will be:
- Designing strategic communications and engagement plans;
- Creating and editing content for written communication materials;
- Developing marketing and branding materials for projects;
- Leading social media campaigns for external clients;
- Hosting and facilitating a variety of public engagement events;
- Researching Indigenous protocols and leading consultation with First Nations;
- Supporting our internal communications and engagement when required;
- Appling an accessibility and equity lens to our communications; and
- Liaising with our project coordinators on event planning and logistics.
**About You**
We are looking for a proactive and energetic self-starter committed to providing outstanding service to our internal teams and Urban Systems' clients. You will have 3+ years of experience in a similar role and a Bachelors Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. Experience working in a government setting would be an asset.
In addition, you will have the following qualifications and attributes:
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with competing deadlines;
- Significant knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices, and current trends in community engagement and stakeholder relations. (IAP2 Foundations Training would be considered an asset);
- Strong attention to detail;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders;
- A team collaborator that can adapt to change, demonstrate flexibility and problem-solving in the face of changing project demands, business needs and work responsibilities; and
- Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, takes initiative to achieve results and meet deadlines, proactively looks to meet the needs of our team and can work independently.
