Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement. **The salary range for this position is**: **- Recruitment range: $83,094- $91,625** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement. **- Performance range: starting salary to max of $108,088** is available through annual performance increases. **_*This position is eligible for a Hybrid Work Arrangement*_** - Job Summary **Mandate**: The Office of Student Life (OSL) provides student transition programming and support for new-to-UVic students facilitating their successful transition through pre-arrival and arrival orientation programs and events, as well as first-year experience programs and activities. OSL is also responsible for providing pro-active educational programming for students by developing and delivering programs to advance UVic’s response to student mental health issues, sexualized violence awareness and prevention and in other areas that support under-represented student populations. OSL is also responsible for the investigation and resolution of non-academic misconduct allegations and provides collaborative, individualized student-centered support for students facing multi-faceted challenges and/or barriers which require coordinated responses and engagement. The Manager of New Student Engagement is responsible for the direct supervision, strategic OSL program planning and day-to-day decisions for a range of programs and services that fulfill the goals and objectives of the OSL’s new student engagement strategy. This position supports student success and retention through student leadership and experiential learning; providing comprehensive opportunities for students to engage, learn and grow outside of the classroom experience. **Objectives**: Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Experience, and in support of departmental and divisional goals, the Manager, New Student Engagement is responsible for oversight of and the strategic development, management and assessment of student pre-arrival, orientation, transitions, and first year experience programming including: (a) pre-arrival and arrival Orientation programming; (b) first year programming and engagement initiatives; (c) new student peer-mentorship programming; (d) student leadership programs that support new student engagement; and (e) incoming and new student communications strategy. The Manager provides direct supervision and oversight of all new student engagement programming and events teams. This includes directly supervising 5 full time staff, providing oversight to an additional 5-10 part time student staff, and provides direction and oversight to the management of approximately 80-100 paraprofessional student staff and volunteers. - Job Requirements This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a graduate degree in a related field (e.g., education, psychology, leadership, public administration, Student Affairs administration, etc.) and 5-7 years of professional experience in a post-secondary or other complex organization. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. **Experience must include**: - Developing programming for students with intended outcomes related to student learning, retention and success. - Working directly with students and student groups from diverse populations including experience working with student advocacy groups. - Management and coordinating large events. - Demonstrated leadership, supervisory skills and the ability to inspire staff, a team and student leaders. - Working effectively both independently and in a team environment, collaborating with a broad range of students and units to achieve goals/objectives. - Developing and delivering programming, training and presentations on sensitive topics. - Organizing and overseeing large programs comprised of student leaders. - Public presentations and publicly responding to questions/concerns and/or media requests. - Providing leadership on large multi-disciplinary committees or advisor
