We seek excellent students, faculty, and staff to join us in what has become known as the "Western Experience" - an opportunity to contribute to a better world through the development of new knowledge, new abilities, new connections, and new ways to make a difference. **About Us**: The Faculty of Science’s mission is to be a cornerstone of society’s development through the education of students, the creation and dissemination of knowledge, and the establishment of innovative partnerships with industry, government and other educational institutions in the global community. **Responsibilities**: The Human Resources & Operations Specialist will oversee, direct, and assist with establishing the vision for a wide variety of administrative, operations, and human resources processes and will ensure smooth and efficient administration of the decanal portfolio in the Faculty of Science. The role will participate in the development and implementation of strategic plans, programs and policies to ensure successful alignment and progress. The Human Resources & Operations Specialist will oversee faculty and staff human resources functions and processes and ensure consistency and best practices are followed in all administrative aspects for the Faculty of Science. The role will monitor, evaluate, and implement administrative and HR processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and ensure they are carried out in accordance with University policies and procedures and government legislation. The role will provide strategic support to the Dean, including reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing requests, conducting research and analysis to make recommendations, managing requests and projects within the staff team, preparing documents and reports, and providing support for communications functions within the Office of the Dean. The role will manage resources, lead and direct the work of others, ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage risks, and make suggestions for the continual improvement of processes. The Human Resources & Operations Specialist will ensure continuity of administrative operations, coach and train staff, and provide comprehensive consultation on a variety of administrative processes to other administrators related to Western's collective and employee agreements, policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation to ensure the Faculty is supported effectively. **Qualifications**: **Education**: - Undergraduate Degree in Business Management/Administration, Human Resources/Industrial Relations, or related field - Completion of Certified Human Resources Leader designation - Master's Degree is preferred **Experience**: - 5 years of administrative and human resources experience in a unionized environment - 2 years of experience managing staff and projects - Experience supporting a senior leader in a complex office environment - Experience in strategic planning, implementation and operationalization - Experience supporting the human resources function in an academic, education or public sector environment is preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Knowledge of general office procedures, best practices for assessing, developing and implementing new business processes and procedures - In-depth knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices, Employment Standards Act and other relevant legislation - Knowledge of Western collective agreements and employment policies preferred - In-depth knowledge of performance development methods and of best practices in building a strong collaborative team and leading people - Project management skills to champion a project from conception to completion, and to ensure that team roles are clear, milestones are communicated and deadlines are met - Ability to organize and effectively manage human resources needed to achieve results - Capacity to manage resources and resolve logístical issues efficiently with the ability to quickly re-allocate resources and adjust priorities in response to unexpected events or changing circumstances - Communication skills with the ability to converse with, write reports for, and deliver presentations to all levels of the organization - Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion - A well-defined sense of diplomacy including solid negotiation, facilitation, and conflict resolution skills - Ability to promote individual growth by encouraging others to learn new skills and develop themselves - Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite - Advanced skill in managing online meeting platforms and sharing software (such Zoom, Micr
