The role will act as a resource and provide information related to human resources activities related to appointments, job descriptions, recruitment, on-boarding and orientation, maintenance of policies and procedures, sabbaticals, annual performance evaluation, workload, leaves, record maintenance and report generation, in compliance with Western policies, procedures, collective agreements and government legislation. The Human Resources Assistant will compile and maintain confidential information in accordance with School and Human Resources policies and procedures, providing reports and related documentation as required. **Qualifications**: - Education: - 2 year Community College Diploma in Business Management/Administration, Human Resources or related field - Undergraduate Degree preferred - Experience: - 4 years’ of administrative experience supporting Senior Leaders and assisting with human resources functions in an academic environment - Experience in a unionized environment preferred - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: - Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices - Knowledge of Western collective agreements (UWOFA) and policies impacting staff and faculty preferred - Familiarity with the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation - Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate University guidelines, policies and practices to key stakeholders - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of the organization - Strong attention to detail and ability to process information with high levels of accuracy - Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite - Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative and follow through on work assignments - Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities both for self and others effectively - Strong relationship management, influencing and collaboration skills - Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner - Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions - Ability to plan and manage events of various sizes; familiarity with large scale events an asset - Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals - Customer service skills with a desire to achieve results in a professional and timely manner **Union Statement**: **Western Values Diversity**: **Please Note**: We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those chosen for an interview will be contacted.
