Vickers Manor Seniors Residence (formerly McKellar Place) is a growing independent seniors living community in Thunder Bay. We are committed to providing quality accommodation, services, and community engagement while maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our residents.
We are seeking an experienced and motivated **Manager** to support daily operations, lead our team, and contribute to the continued growth and professional transformation of our residence.
**Position Overview**
Reporting directly to the **Executive Director** and Ownership, the Manager will coordinate with the Duty Manager oversee facility operations, support marketing and occupancy growth, maintain regulatory compliance, and foster strong relationships with residents, families, and commercial tenants.
This role requires exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a proactive hands-on approach.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Operations & Staffing**
- Oversee day-to-day staffing and departmental activities including housekeeping, kitchen, recreation, and maintenance
- Provide coaching, performance management, onboarding, and scheduling support
- Ensure daily logs, shift reports, and communication expectations are consistently met
**Facility & Maintenance Management**
- Conduct daily building walkthroughs and ensure cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all resident and commercial spaces
- Collaborate closely with the maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and proactive maintenance
- Collaborate closely with the housekeeping team
- Ensure the building is up to code and compliant with relevant regulations
**Resident & Community Relations**
- Maintain strong, respectful relationships with residents, families, and commercial lease holders
- Respond promptly to concerns and facilitate resolution with empathy and professionalism
- Support resident wellness and community activities
**Compliance & Administration**
- Oversee documentation, policies, and safety protocols
- Liaise with external partners such as Thunder Bay Public Health, Fire Safety, and the City of Thunder Bay
- Support incident reporting and ensure compliance with standards for independent seniors living
- Ability to use ShareDrive/One Drive and other Electronic Programs
**Marketing & Occupancy**
- Support marketing initiatives, tours, and move-ins
- Generate creative solutions to support occupancy growth and community visibility
- Track inquiries and maintain accurate records of prospective residents
**Qualifications**
- Experience in hospitality, property management, retirement living, health administration, or similar leadership role
- Strong understanding of building operations, compliance, and safety standards
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a resident-first mindset
- Strong organizational and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to multitask and thrive in a dynamic, evolving environment
- Experience coordinating with regulatory bodies such as Public Health, Fire Services, City inspectors, etc.
- Proficient with digital tools and reporting systems
**Assets**
- Training or certification in First Aid/CPR, Food Safety, WHMIS, or Occupational Health & Safety (Can be completed after hire)
- Experience with marketing, community outreach, or event planning
- Knowledge of seniors living or healthcare environments
