**What you’ll do**
Operating in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and adhering to the Villa Cathay Care Home (VCCH) person-centered care philosophy, the clinical operation supervisor provides point of care supervision to licensed practical nurses, health care aides, and allied health care staff. Working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team and reporting to the Assistant Director of Care, the clinical operation supervisor ensures the delivery of professional, compassionate person-centered care.
The clinical operation supervisor is responsible for overseeing the implementation of best practice standards, timely and proper implementation of individualized care plan, supervising and guiding the care team for quality care outcomes, and foster the partnership with residents and families to support safe care for resident as well as to enhance a sense of purposeful living and dignity. The clinical operation supervisor also contributes to the development of, and changes to, the residents’ care plans and champions a person-centered culture for residents, families, and the team.
This position supervises and coaches licensed practical nurses, resident care aides and designated staff, determining work priorities, making and adjusting work assignments, directing work, and evaluating and providing feedback on employees’ performance to ensure that the needs of residents are met and that outcomes of care are achieved. This position is also responsible for incident reporting and safety planning.
**Key Responsibility Area**
1. With the general direction of the Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) and Director of Care (DOC), provide clinical supervision and leadership to ensure safe and quality nursing care is delivered.
2. Provides guidance, coaching, and supervision to the nursing team to ensure that care delivery follows regulatory requirements, professional standards, and in accordance with evidenced based best practices to ensure resident safety and to enhance residents’ sense of quality of life.
3. Documents specific learning needs and incidents for staff, collaborate with ADOC and DOC for performance management and annual performance reviews
4. Through daily rounds, audits, timely communication, and other means, supports the nursing team in clinical decision making. Imparts the nursing team with knowledge and reinforces through skill practice to perform the duties appropriately and to deliver the desired outcomes
5. Oversees the implementation of resident care plans through daily assignments and monitoring and adapting of bedside care plans to meet resident’s current care needs while maintaining the dignity of each resident.
6. Monitor and supervise effective communication between team members to identify resident changes, red flags, timely update of assessment and care plan to minimize residents’ risk of undetected health changes and risk.
7. Addresses concerns and complaints of residents and families to enhance satisfaction, and to improve residents’ sense of quality of life.
8. Identifies learning needs of the nursing and care team. With the general direction of ADOC and DOC, provides, arrange, or coordinate professional development through ways such as huddles and in-services. Provide clinical guidance and support to new staff, in collaboration with HR for effective and smooth on-boarding.
9. Foster a safe work environment by modeling and promoting proper practice. Conduct incident investigation. Serve as a member and work collaboratively with the Occupational Health and Safety Committee to promote the workplace health and safety.
10. Makes temporary staffing adjustment as needed and provides proposal and recommendations on the effective staffing allocation.
11. Participates in departmental and general staff meetings, including interdisciplinary meetings and nurses’ meetings to provide input related to resident care and the operation of VCCH.
12. Identifies and addresses gaps in the care delivery process and promotes the quality improvement in a systemic manner including but not limited to recommending policy and procedure changes, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team in quality improvement initiatives.
13. Contributes to the development and modification of resident care policies and procedures, as well as those which pertain to the safety of residents
